Man, you have no idea how bad i want to come over there, one of these days---hell im still considering moving. well mabye i can talk two of my yota friends to come down w/ me--they always do the crazy stuff.

have you guys narrowed it down the when you are comming (so i can get off my arse and finish) i dont think i will be finished but it will definately be ready to roll (no pun intended :D )

my over all plans are

picture the red part baby blue and the white white, tapered front and rear, full cage (even the front clip) with some fordeez and H2 rims beadlocked for the bling factor.

but i still have to work my way up from this

i should have the body back on the fram w/in the next couple of weeks. im hoping to have it driving by christmas. we'll see.

Probably same deal as last year, a couple of weeks after the Chile Challenge, like last year.

We were thinking about staying at the same campgrounds as last year.

Are you trying to build another daily driver/wheeler, and not thrash the body?

You know I'm in the same boat as you somewhat, going to have to make a decision real soon as to the next step in wheeling.

I'm thinking buy 4 seat tube buggy frame from someone and put everything together...... What is left of the blazer has a long overdue trip to the junkyard/scrap pile. The thing is totally trashed, I just don't want to deal with any downtime when it comes to swaping the stuff over.

I'm still going to go with the 1/2 ton gear, but the frame and rest is gone.

So what about it, can you make a trip over to AZ before we head your way?

What about coming to our yearly Thanksgiving "Parker Amigo" run? We wheel the Thanksgiving weekend, Thursday,Friday Saturday & Sunday. It's probably the best trip we do all year.

It's not far from where Marv and I live.
 
I know for a fact i cannot get the weekend of thanksgiving off :mad: you know how retail is. but you know what, i will definately make an effort to make it up there this coming year. w/ or w/o the truck. It has been long over due.

at least for a little while, if it happen, it happens. im not going to take easier lines,, just take it easy on the hard lines. :haha: who am i kidding, well at least it will look good for a little while. I am keeping it "blazer" looking because i just can't do the buggy thing. (yet) i love the look of the blazer. when you see a buggy go through something hard you say "wow, look at that buggy go through that". But when you see a full size blazer go through you say "holy spit, look at that blzer go throuh there" granted im not building it for people to look at but i am building "something" who knows one day I will crossover fully to the darkside.
 
Uber cheap is to find a resteraunt that is getting renevated and ask for the cutting block. There are a couple of places that sell plastics in pheonix. The guy that did harleys bedsides had a decent price on it. As for mounting it, you can drill and countersink it just like wood. It doesn't grab much at all when sliding so there isn't much of a shear force on it (try and dig into a cutting board with a steak knife). You can bevel it with a router too. 3/8" is enough for most, if the framing suppoting it has large voids then go 1/2" I was working a design similar to scooby's (using the bolt holes of the stock x-member supported by tube) and planned on doing the UHMW for fun. After seeing harleys bed sides bow in ~2" and come back with nothing more than a surface scratch I was sold.

do you have any more pics of the front end of your doubler x-member? I'm looking for ideas and it seems the front shaft will be a PITA to get around
 
I can get some, i basically made a bend inward towards the t-case right where the driveshaft goes down. i have discussed some options if i do hit the crossmember and if it does I will have to heat up and modify a very small piece for it to clear.
 
Nice. Can't see that well in the picture, did you tie back the back of the mount plate to the outboard frame rail? Or is your box plate just welded to the top and bottom of the edges of the frames C-Channel?

We like to use the 3/16" AR360 steel. It's basically a hardened chromo alloy and is tough beyond what we really need. Kind of heavy but you can't scratch it and it won't bend. And it makes pretty sparks.

The brace you see in the pics that's on a bolt flange by the front driveshaft is a big deal. Beck lost a trans housing due to pushing up that section of the crossmember so it's now braced to the chassis. We did the same thing in wally to make sure that corner does NOT flex.
 
Nice cross member and mount setup. Very similar to what I'm working on in principle, though the implementation is a bit different...
