Manny, this may sound kinda harsh or it may sound hilarious but it's not ment to be taken seriously, if you need to surgery just get some jb weld and smooth it out :D

Hope everything goes good with the doctors and you get in the mud soon :waytogo:

Im glad you have a sense of humor about all this , you are a true trooper for sticking through it. :waytogo: If I was in your situation, I would be acting like a grumpy old man.

Whew...

hey my name is rich.. man i just got done reading this post.. i lost track of how many days it took me! NICE BUILD MANNY! awsome truck! makes me want to jump in and work on my truck now! but the weather up here in pa has been lousy lately.. so got to wait!. GLAD to see ur alright and recovering well! BEST OF LUCK!!! :waytogo:

hey manny glad to hear things are on a good path and even better to finally get caught up with your build i my self have alot of work to do on mine as i have a new project to swap all my gear into

Best wishes for recovery

Manny,

It has only taken me a few hundred hours to read through this thread, ok so I am exagerating a little. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and I can't wait to see you gettin this beast in the mud. Thank you for your service to our country.

I love the build up, and you have given me some ideas for where I want to go with my K5. When I read about the disc brake conversion, I immediately went to Black Widows site to look up the parts to do this to mine. Definately going to get me a 14ff to put under the beast and add the brakes to go with it.

I have laughed with you, and just know that even though it feels like you are alone sometimes, I read this thread in the middle of the night, and there are always people reading. You have more friends than you can even imagine. Keep your spirits high, and remember we are all pulling for you, and sooner or later we will be pulling you out of the mud that was just too much.:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

Just so you know I just picked up the K5 I have been wanting for at least twenty years, and now can't wait to get it going, and you are a big reason for that.

Well let's just say that your attention to detail has shown me things that I never would have thought of. I'm no mudder, but seeing everything you have done to yours, shows me what I need to be looking for on mine.

Can't quite go as high as yours, the wife and kids wouldn't be able to get into the beast, but 35's are definately in the works.

Keep up the great work, and I will keep following the progress and learning more.

I will say that CK5 is the greatest site I have found. The wealth of information is invaluable, and the people here aren't afraid to share their knowledge. That has helped me learn so much about my truck that I never would have gotten until it is too late.

i have to get one of those new fangled magnetic angle finders as well, I "think" that sears hardware sells them, otherwise I'll be waiting for summit as well. Need to set the pinion angle on the race car.

Hey Y'all,

Then I got a set of Energy Suspension Transmission Mounts:

Manny,

Make sure you have poly engine mounts too. You should not mix rubber and poly. It can lead to cracking the bellhousing or T-case adapter. I've seen it happen a few times to others. I don't want to see you break anything.

Then again, I could have completely missed where you got poly engine mounts.... :D

Just my .02,
John

Hey John,

I appreciate you watching out for me. I spoke with Energy Suspension before I bought these specifically asking them about "deflection under torque". They said that there would be no issue with that. Hmmm...now I'm checking to see what my motor mounts are because Mr. Janke when he installed the motor put in new motor mounts. They look all solid to me.

I'll check.

Manny

Nammy I have personally broke a bell housing in under an hour of use after putting in a energy suspension poly tranny mount!!!!

put in some poly mounts or maybe do the ord crossmember upgrade, just do it! with the frame flex and hard use our truck get put through there is a need for it!

Its related to the amount of deflection allowed by the poly mounts compared to the amount allowed by rubber. If the engine mounts are rubber, which is softer than polyeurethane, and the tranny mount is poly, then the engine can twist to a greater degree than the end of the tranny. The testimonials you see here relate to cracking of the bellhousing area.

Think of this like twisting a flat piece of metal between your hands. Under a quick snap of the throttle on a powerful engine, the engine/tranny combo tries to rotate, if the engine can rotate quicker than the end of the tranny, then the assembly tries to twist in the middle, just like the sheet would do in your hands. The reason that metal may give before poly has to do with the distance between the mounts and the middle. The distance acts just like a lever to multiply the force applied.

If the engine and tranny mounts are made from the same material, then the whole assembly has balanced forces acting on both ends, and doesn't try to twist.

Hopefully, I didn't confuse you, its been a year or two since I took Dynamics.

I would go with all poly instead of all rubber. The only way there would be no deflection would be if you had solid ounts and I am fairly sure there would be a very small anount of deflection.

racing mounts are typically solid mounts which won't have any deflection. You wouldn't see any rubber or poly on the mounts since it would just be 2 metal brackets with a bolt through them.

Exactly.

I have heard it is OK to run solid motor and then poly trans mounts, but it is not ideal.

Manny I totally understand about changing mounts. I prefer an afternoon at the dentist!

Hey Manny, keep in mind that the poly motor mounts look just like the rubber ones sometimes. I would call Mr. Janke (if I remember correctly) and ask him. Most performance shops do put the poly ones in. Take care and I hope you get to 100% ASAP.
