Chevy305 posted this pic in his build thread. Just by the looks of the panels I figured a manual version was available, but I've never seen one. Of course all the trucks I see in Texas seem to be AC trucks, so the vents are controlled by the HVAC mechanism.

So what should I be looking for if I want a pair of these manual vents? Non-AC trucks? Early trucks? Are there more parts to install these than what the automated trucks have?

Once I know what I'm looking for I'll be posting a WTB for a pair in blue.

Yes, non-AC trucks.

Unfortunately, as-is, you can only install them on the passenger side, at least in my 1985 body. The cutout does not exist on the drivers side on AC trucks. I didn't look real close, but I didn't see a "dimple" where it might have been pre-stamped like the manual shifter hole on the tunnel, which makes things very easy to cut out.

I have had an eye out for these also. I knew they existed from a truck my dad had in the 70's, but I don't think I have seen them in any truck since then. I'm thinking they were no longer available in the 80's, or were not very common by that time.

My 75 non ac has manual vents and I'm pretty sure my 84 non ac has them as well.

I can check the 84 to make sure when I get home

Actually my 89 crew cab has them. It's a non-a/c truck.

my 77 K10 and my BIL's 85 K30 has them both non a/c trucks. I actually have a spare set from a parts truck 76 K20 ( in blue) if you need them

On a side note, make sure you get a good thick rubber/foam gasket and cinch those scews down tight. I chased water leaks for a year til I figured out it was coming from that vent cover.

Someone on the 67-72chevytrucks forum posted a DIY rebuild of them that included changing the gasket. Didn't look hard at all. And I think it was on the earlier style vent that was riveted.

Edit: Found it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=434587

I think my 82 GMC has manual floor vents...I'll have to look..no A/C in it so I'm pretty sure it does..

I think I kept a pair of those off the '71 Suburban I parted out too...for what I dont know, its not like they are a wear item.....also have a lot of other interior stuff from it like sun visors, ash tray, defroster vents, glove box door,etc...probably never get used, and chucked out someday...

My 87 has those.
Never tried or even thought about removing them, but I'll take a look for you. If I get them out in one piece I'll let you know.

Ya these things are great! No need for A/C except when in traffic :doah:

I absolutely love these! My 86 M1009 has them and my old 88 R30 has them. Both Non-A/C trucks.

I always wished they would have put one on the driverside of AC equipped trucks.

I actually find the passenger side helps the most with the door window cracked.

Oh, I would agree, but that side is used for the recirculation/fresh air vent for the AC. There is nothing going on on the driver's side of an AC cab, so why not just throw one there?
