Manual Transmission

Duder,

Did you say
"well i do ride a 2004 gsxr 750 crotch rocket so i know how to shift but have never done it in a car yet.

thanks for the info"

and does that mean you have never driven a car with a stick? I am not trying to rain on your parade, but I've driven a lot of scooters, including taking my '04 GSXR to Willow Springs, and it is not the same as changing gears in a big 'ol truck...not that you won't get used to it, but it is different. Here is my two cents, if the above statement is true (if it isn't then flame me and I'll apologize) then I would strongly suggest mucho time practicing driving until you get your truck in any sort of precarious position...shifting a truck is differnet than a motorcycle (or even a Honda civic for that matter), but when you are about to flop and have to dance on the pedals...well, it can be down right interesting...

P.S. I echo what the other dudes said, I swapped in my 465 in place of TH400 and am glad I did it! and Orange is an awesome color!
yeah, i know it may be different, but according to most people that i have spoke with, they all say, i should pick it up very fast since i already have the concept down

Yeah you can but something to keep in mind is the gears in your axles. If you go up in the tires then you are going to lose your bottom end power but since you have an SM465 you have a very low 1st so you could get away with a little larger tire.
As far as fitting it that is a matter of personal opinion. Cut the fenders if you don't care. Add a small lift. Maybe zero rates?

Oh and its great to see another Fresno member! Welcome!

thank you very much

I like my slush box. Bring it over I bet we can make 38-40's fit under it with 4" of lift ;) . Let me know when you want to go wheel'n. I am just 15 min South of you. I have some buddy's doing Dusey next week, bastards!

I like your bike :waytogo:

Well guys, yesterday was the first time i drove her :doah:

and you can guess :haha: i stalled her :haha:

anyways i am getting better at it. i found that its easier for me to start in granny gear to prevent stalling. :D i know you guys will tell me that i will only move 3ft, but this is a start.

I figure after a few more times, i will disregard the granny gear and jump straight into starting in 2nd :p:

OK

why in hell is it so hard to go from 2nd to 3rd:mad:

i feel like i can shove that stick when i go from 2nd to 3rd right into the dash:(

??? might be your revs on your engine, you need to give it more gas!!!!LOL

True, I am "learning" to drive my dad's 300zx thats a stick. I used to always kill it because I didn't give it gas as I was letting the clutch out. I thought I could let the clutch out and it would roll slowly on its own like if you just put an auto in drive and let off the brakes. I was wrong. :doah:

just to make sure we're on the same page... are you referring to granny/low as being first, then first as being second, second as third and third as fourth?

if so, i had a hard time learning to find the second gear (meaning the one up and to the right) efficiently so that i wouldn't lug the engine when i finally got into it. just give it a bit of time and you'll start finding the gears pretty easy. make sure that you're really reaching the top end of your power curve to make shifts easier/smoother and to prevent lugging the engine.

it is possible to just let off the clutch w/ this tranny and it won't stall, however. in L, you can drop that clutch as fast as you want and it shouldn't stall. in 1st, you may have to come off of it kind of slowly, but it should be pretty easy to pick up.

i am so good @ it im trying to drive with out the clutch, every time i stop i turn off the engine put it in L and start it its cool, all it does is just roll and i give is gas and go into 1st and then i lose it from there. i had a tough time taking off on agles like @ bridges and hills but after a year and a half i got it!!!! dont worry youll get it too!!

When you smash yer knuckles into the dash that's how you know it's in third...and if you have a bench seat fourth is where the shifter is stuffed into the seat. I'm pretty sure you'll need to open the passenger window to access reverse... :p:

465's are great tranny's, but they're also well known for having one of the sloppiest shift patterns ever.

which reminds me.... is there anyway to reduce the play in the shift rod so it doesn't shake around quite so much. seems like the it's got .5" to 1" radial play, which looks super crazy when you're bumping over some rocks and it looks like your tranny's about to fall outta the truck!

cool. i'll have to look at my shifter soon. :)

I just did it to mine and got the welds on the ball a little and it messed the shifting up, had to grind it down a little.

It didn't feel any different
