sounds like one of those "constant pressure" valve bodies you can get for a fully auto tranny. it takes away the TV cable too.

so i got the tranny in and everything was fine...then i went on the highway,and i put it in 4th (without a lock up) and then it REALLY overheated, i thought i blew a tranny line at first. i had no acceleration on the highway, just slipping and i heard it boiling over the overflow when i stopped
is it because i dont have a lock up wired up? my old tranny was alright without a lock up....the only thing i can think of is it being in 4th without a lock up and constant pressure valve body. o ya...i drove it again after i towed it home and its fine now that i keep it out of 4th

Did your old setup have a check ball in the snout of the TCC solenoid?? Ive ran into situations where people put a check ball in the tcc solenoid and that makes it automatically lock up when shifting into third. But no unlock when you hit the brakes. Either way, the converter should be matched to Lock/Non Lock. So if your not using lock up you NEED to have a non lock up converter and the right parts to make it all work. just my .02
Are you sure your old setup didn't have lockup? They really like to overheat in 4th without it. Maybe you just didn't know it was locking up in 4th. They are pretty easy to configure this way.
The TCC clutch broke on mine once and I could bring my transmission temp gauge into the red in under 4 miles on the freeway. Before that failure and after I replaced the TC, the gauge would hardly move. Running in 3rd gear was fine.

i put in a rebuilt 700r when i switched my truck from the stock tbi to carb. with no computer hook up at all. and it was fine in 4th with no lock up. so i think it might be the combination of the constant 200psi and no lock up? its the only answer i can come up with. o ya, both times i used a lock up TC with no lock up hooked up because i took the computer out with the carb swap.
I thought that even with TBI, there was still an automatic lock up in 4th. The computer was just controlling it everywhere else. Even if that's not the cae, can't it still be easily wired for this from the outside? The 700 is not designed to work without it. The fluid flow is poor in 4th gear, but I would almost think the high line pressure would help. Anybody have wiring diagrams?

I'm going to bump this since it's been a good read.
My question: Has anyone ran the RMVB and stock column shifter? Or for that mater, the standard MVB? Thinking about going this route to make my BTO 700r last longer and get rid of that damn TV cable. Just not thrilled with a ratchet/gate shifter.
Also, what happens to the torque converter and lock up? Considering a constant pressure body or MVB. Not a DD but street driven yes.
