Hey all, I've ended up with 3 keys for my 76 k5: 1 for doors, 1 for rear pwr window, 1 for ignition. I've found matching sets online, but the "fitment" says they won't fit. Have any of you done this swap to just 1 key for ALL ? (Possibly a j series?)

I've never seen a square that was able to have a single key for everything. I'd take the tailgate lock to a locksmith and have it rekeyed to fit the door key.

Thought lmc had full 2 key sets?
I know they used to at least for like barn door burbs.

military all same and same across ALL vehicles of the body style . no lost keys this way .

and aftermarket SUCKS anymore . i got a new ignition tumbler and key and 6 months later with under 5k miles i do not need a key at all anymore .

Made overseas with zinc pins. They wear out fast. Too bad the US can't make things anymore.

I'll look up which locks uncle sam used. Thank you.

ive always had 3 keys for my k5’s, never knew any better. Think im more inclined to find a way for remote entry at this point than trying go from 3 to 2 keys.

Military k5’s never had electric tailgates so think best you could do would be 2 keys from a oem perspective if keeping electric tailgate

See above. One key. Ignition, doors, tailgate. Less than 100$ for the set.

Find a worn out door key, mine will do the doors, ignition, and tailgate window. Plus when its running I can pull the key out.
lol yeah so can I. Though my ignition key is slotted so it doesn't fit the door cylinders. in 2018 when I un mothballed my rig the ignition key on my ring wouldn't turn the the cylinder. Had to dig up my unworn spare. Made some copies of that one.

I put rtv silicone on my tailgate key, stuck a rare earth magnet to it, then stuck it to the ceiling about the driver seat. That helps, but i still don't care for the lack of forethought on GM's part. And I'm stubborn.

I got the full keyed-alike set from GMC Pauls and i'm quite pleased with it so far. I only have the doors and electric tailgate installed though. I have a lot more work to do on the column besides the key.
Good to know. I have the standard 2 keys for mine. Something for me to think about for the future!

The electric tailgate will be another chapter, and I'm SURE a pain in the ass...
Definitely could be a challenge. I haven't ever worked on one, but I believe that there used to be a thread on here about those.
A long time ago..
