What's the maximum cargo weight you can safely carry in a '74 K5 Blazer? (assuming that everything is stock)

Is it that you don't like the answers you're getting?

BTW, the answer, it would seem, is "buy a 1-ton pickup." :deal:

What ARE you carrying in that thing?

To answer your question, the GVWR of a '74 K5 ranges from 4900# for a base model 2WD to 6200# for a fully-spec'd out 4WD. This includes the truck, occupants, fluids like gas, and cargo. That's further specified as GAWR for front and back axles, which the plate on your door jamb will have for your particular truck, as the ratings also depend on engine and axle ratio, etc.

You could change the rear axle and put on spring packs from a 3/4 or 1-ton truck, which would prolly mean moving the hangers, as the 3/4+ spring packs are prolly 56" instead of 52". Or any of the other options discussed the other times you've asked this question.

You could also get a trailer, or get a pickup ;)

I was asking a different question, so I started a different thread. What exactly I am carrying in that thing is irrelevent, all that matters is how much the cargo weighs.

Actually it does matter -- how it's loaded, for instance, as it relates to the rear suspension and/or axle.

At the least I think you have some weird rear springs, as they don't sound stock, and you've gotten a lot of feedback on the "other" questions that doesn't seem to have been address :dunno:

LMAO!:D

All the weight is pretty evenly distributed on the floor space. It's just boxes of stuff. These HD springs I got are rated by the manufacturer at 1850 lbs each. The stock springs that I took off were rated at 1600 lbs each, at least they were when they were new. I thought I was getting ahead in the world with those aftermarket springs. The add-a-leaf springs are sounding more attractive to me the more I think about it.
