So I am in the middle of a brake pad replacement on a 2006 pontiac G6 Gt, doing the rear brake pads. I have the calipers loose from the rotors, old pads out and am trying to compress the caliper piston.

I am using a caliper compressor tool and have opened the bleeder but seems extremely hard to depress, any suggestions.

E brake is not on.

Some calipers that are also used as an e-brake the caliper pistons must be screwed back in and there is a special tool for doing that. Here is a link to a generic tool from Snap-on. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...&group_ID=1682&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

So the caliper piston has to be rotated to be put back in then?

Ok I figured it was either my compressor with a knurled handle didn't put enough force on the piston since my 6'1 240 pound frame can only deliver so much power or there was a special trick like maybe the e brake had to be disconnected.

That might explain the shape of the face of the piston!!

thanks!! Helps me not feel like a complete failure. I thought great what next I won't be able to figure out how to change oil on these new fangled cars????:doah:

In a pinch, a pair of needle nose pliars can be used to screw the pistion back in.

It took me forever to find the oil filter on the Ecotec motors when they first came out. I must have spent atleast an hour looking for it before I got online and looked it up.

Thanks for all the advice, Just another example of the value of being a member of this site.

Yep I looked and looked for the wiring from the switch to the starter on the same G6, called a mechanic friend and he told me just keep looking you will find it, an hour later he called and said you having fun yet? by the way its electronic impulse so no wiring.

thanks again guys
