Ok so now that i have one of the gauge clusters from the old dump trucks... you know with the tach/fuel gauge..... i now have a mechanical oil gauge.... i took the line (small fitting on end) to Napa and autozone and no one knows what kind of line it is and where to get it..

sooooo anyone here (i know you will know ryoken ) that would know where to get the line for this puppy?

p.s. dont forget to hookup the line to the block before starting.. i dropped like a quart in seconds!!!!!!!!!

and this is what it looks like... not mine but giving credit for pic...

from here http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187856

That's a bit high. They usally sell for $200 or so.

I bought a new Tach/Fuel (just gauge, they only came in Med. Duty trucks), NOS condition, for $150.

Here's the cluster I pieced together with it:
Air gauge was from another medium duty cluster I found in a yard.

The factory tachs are somewhat rare, in working order is rarer yet.

I don't know about dump trucks but the pick ups with mech gauges used simple 1/8" copper tubing with ferrell(sp?) fittings.

ill try and post the pic later of the connector to the gauge... it isnt the ferrell connector... the napa guy is usually good and it stumped him... :dunno:

It's just a peice of 1/8" copper tubing with a 1/8" compression nut fitting on both ends...they are readily available at many "good" parts stores,I'm surprised your NAPA guy didn't stock them...I have a few used oil pressure gauge lines from stock dashes somewhere in my garage...

I have not been able to find these fittings also. I've never really tried either, but it is something unique GM did and stopped using when they went to electric gauges. Most auto parts stores have stopped carrying hardly used oddball stuff for old cars.

These fittings are something ford would do to their customer base.

try a speed shop in your area, or a hose supplier. if you can find the adaptor to fit the back of the gauge you can use a steel braided hose or have one made. these guys are 2 miles from me and can make anything http://www.gandjaircraft.net/index-1.html theu made my oil gauge line for me with -3 an fittings and the ends are crimped on the hose. its a teflon hose and last forever and wasnt outrageous either price wise. give em a call and talk to cliff he may be able to help you figure somthing out.

try a 1/8th in. pipe to 1/8 compression fitting. it looks like it would work from the pic you posted

I know the fitting you're talking about, you can just change it to a standard style 1/8" copper tubing and ferrel arrangement with the proper fitting to match to go into the block.

Unless, he has the old line, he can use 1/8 tube and ferrel from the engine. He is going to run into problems when he gets to the gauge. The gauge is only going to take that special fitting, which will fit over 1/8 tube.

He may need to a short piece that has the fitting on it from the junk yard and put a union ferrel to hook up the two lines.

i believe the fitting screws into the back... then that back piece unscrews from the gauge.. so i believe i maybe able to get the adapter i picked up to fit.. will see sometime this week..

my goal tomorrow morning (before kids soccer) is to get all my wires zip tied and mounted out of the way.... my wiring is FINALLY DONE!!!!

all i need to do to drive the truck is bleed the clutch and move my heater core lines as in my other thread...

I guess I'm spoiled....the parts store I worked at last still has the same drawers of Dorman fittings that I hated restocking and doing inventory of..3 miles away!..

This is why I rarely toss anything, even if it looks like "junk",one part like this you have "in stock" on a sunday is priceless..I didn't realize how scarce some parts are getting until a year or so ago for our trucks..

I would think a good industrial supply or heavy duty truck parts store should be able to get these fitting pretty easily..but I'm near Boston, not Nebraska or other places that mignt not be so densely populated..Maybe a Tractor Supply,I have seen these fittings on external oil filter lines on tractors..

well i trashed the gauge trying to get the back connector off... so oh well... now trying to wire in the electric... to on avail...

thought id bump this back...

so i couldnt get the electric to work... maybe fried it wiring it up wrong and trying to figure it out.. who knows...

just bought another off of ebay... so will wait for it... and try again... i did buy the kits you guys were talking about to switch the hose type over... i know it wouldnt work on the other one.. but hoping it was that the gauge was messed up by then...

seller said he may have the line!!!!!!!!!if he does.. he said add $5 !!!!!!!!! I HOPE HE FINDS IT!!!!!!!!! :woot:
