Does anyone know of a vss that can be used in a NP205 mechanical drive? i have heard of one but do not know of were to locate one. Like a converter. The vss is self contained.

Thanks

jagsthatrun.com sells quite a few.

Question you'll need to answer is what kind of signal generator you'll need. I suspect it's a 40 pulse your truck is looking for, although I can't guarantee it.

jagsthatrun.com has a bit of incorrect truck info so you'll need to do your homework. I don't know for sure that they have incorrect info for what you are looking for, just that some of the truck info isn't right, so be careful. They are good to deal with though.

Your other option, if you can find it, is to convert your 205 tailhousing to the VSS setup. Either a '91 GM 205 output shaft housing/reluctor ring, or making the new parts fit the older one.

I suppose the signal generator is the cheaper/easier route unless you've got the parts already to put on the 205.

edit: don't type fast enough. :)

which would be the best to use with a np205 hooked to a 4l80e behind a vortec?

Like I said, you'll have to find out what the '96 setup is looking for.

I'm assuming the original t-case had a VSS on it, so you need to find out what it's output was, and get whatever replicates that. 40 pulse was the gm standard for quite awhile as I understand it, but I'm not up on the late-model stuff, so I'm not going to say that with certainty. A 1996 GM service manual set may tell you.

if you get a relctor ring out of a 233 or 241 the ring has the same splines as the 203 and 205 speedo gear so you can convert the case and get your vss pretty easy

Your 205 setup is likely thread on like the one on the left but early GM 205's used the "slip fit" style on the right.
