I bought a new set of Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radial Tires, size 305/70 R16 online. When I got them,3 of them match but the 4th one has a slightly different tread pattern. The 3 that match have a deeper side wall tread. The other one has about half as much side wall tread as the other 3.All 4 are radials but you can can see a difference on the one.

I am going to send back the one different tire but I was just wondering if anyone knows if they have changed their tread design over the years or something? Has anyone run into this problem?

Send all 4 back their junk. I hated mine, of course they was first production and bias, but still the tread pattern sucked. Did do good in sand and deep powder snow though.

Are you sure all are radials? Do they all have "radial" in large raised black letters on the sidewall? You described the main difference between the radial and bias versions (bias have much more aggressive/deep sidewall tread than radials).

if you are going to use them for your DD get ready to buy a new set in less then a year.

Thanks for all your replies and advice,I appreciate it.

All the tires are radials, all 4 of them have the raised black letters that say radials.

Here is a couple of picture links that I found online that show the difference between the different tread design.

I got 3 tires that look like this:

The one that is slightly different looks like this:

There are bigger voids between the lugs on the 2nd picture link.

The 1st link shows the tread sloping at more of an angle than the 2nd one. It is easier to see the difference when the tires are setting in front of you but I thought this might give you some idea of what I was talking about?

Thanks,

i got bias ones and when i air them down i think work real good for me on my suburban. i find they suck in sand, really good in snow and mud. i have been daily driving mine for a year and a half and there is more than 75% tread left.

agreed... I'm so tired of guys giving the Baja Claws a bad name... no they might not be perfect for all applications but for street/sand/snow they are fine. Heck I've put thousands of miles on my BIAS PLY baja claws and they've only worn slightly...

As I said mine where first run production, (probably the first set ever in utah) and they sucked all around. In fact they would not even smoke in a burn out just leave a big pile of hot chunky rubber. Alot of people have claimed, to me, the tires have got better. I seriously would be lucky if I got 12,000miles out of them. And NO b4 you start its not like I did burnouts all the time I only tried it like 2-3 times.

Vernal has a few places with slick rock like moab, and those tires absolutely did not grip. Put me in a few scarey situations. They did work goot in dry sand and powder snow. Thick mud just packed the treads full and made slicks.
