might be needing a new tranny... need opinions

ive got an 88 700r4, and suposidly those were better built than the earlier ones. im still down in OBX, i hope it makes it back to VA tomorrow. guess ill just take a couple breaks to let the tranny cool down.

so i should probably go with a built 700? seems like thats mostly the vibe im getting. while i guess it would be cool to have a 4L80e, i guess its probably more work/headaches than its worth.

In your case rebuilding would be the cheaper option cause you already have a good core. But mine's an 84 and 88-93 core are actually kinda hard to come by without having to pay a bit of money for it. Thats the only reason why im going 4l80.

so would i send my core to bowtie and they would sell me a new tranny, or do they just completely overhaul mine? is there anyway they could swap out the 27spline output to 32spline fairly cheaply?

I think advance adapters make a 32spl shaft for the 700. As far as trading it in to bowtie, you'd have to call them, I thought you would just take it to a reputable tranny shop.

To get home I know I have said it before but I will say it agian go get some Lucas transmission fix and add it.

Well I recently bought a th700 transmission from mega monster transmissions is was the Super sport extra heavy duty. It is rated for trucks with up to 650 hp and a towing capacity up to 10,000 pounds. This transmission was built for lifted truck with over size tires. If you by a torque converter it (wich i would) it comes with a two year warranty. I would also recomend a transmission cooler. The transnissions was only 1650 buck wich is not bad

It has come to my attention that the word in question can be spelled both ways according to my dictionary.. Apologize and Apologise, its just that I honestly have never seen it spelled with a 's' before. :o

well after driving about 2hrs today on the highway the tranny started pissing fluid at a good pace. fortunately i put 2 containers of the lucas stop leak....that stuf works wonders, i swear thats the only reason i got home the remaining 4hours...GREAT STUFF! it still slipped a good bit, but i made it home.

anyways, any opinions on that mega monster tranny? how does that compare with tci and bowtie overdrive? seems like apretty good price for what you get

If those are your options your thinking of right now I would stay away from TCI, everyone I've talked to has said that they are great when they work but when they don't they are a pain in the rear for support.

Someone else to think about is www.maddogtransmissions.com

he seems pretty cool too.

Well, I would say you have narrowed it down to the mega monster or the bowtie, but I would still go with the mega monster. Customers have rated the transmission at 5 stars last time I checked. I would give it 5 stars. Free shipping too
