Has anyone had or know of anyone that has had issues with the Mile Marker SI 12,000lb winch being a piece of CRAP?? Out of the 4 times I have tried to use mine it has failed on two of them. I had a cracked solenoid the first time and now the small feedthrough on the side has cracked and the wires came out. These seem to be a very crappy winch. Just wanting to get some feedback from anyone else that may have some input. Thanks

I have the e12,000 and it is a slow piece of sh!t. Motor died on its second use. This is why you don't buy the cheapest winch out there. I learned first hand. I have a warn 8274 on the front of my truck and its a workhorse.

I bought 1 brand new around March. It would not work at all and the plug where the remote plugs in came out of the case. Milemarker sent me a new solenoid box. I connected everything again and this one smoked as soon as I hit the button. They sent me another one with a new remote and I installed it. It worked great in the driveway. I went on a ride that night and when I needed it guess what? It did not work at all. Needless to say I have a brand new warn 12000 now. Their customer service was great. They were willing to do anything to get it fixed including sending me a new winch. Of course this helpfull attitude changed when I told them to forget it and give me a RA# ;-)

Mile Marker winches are Crap...

Thanks guys, They are sending me the part that I think is bad. I will try to tear the thing apart and fix it just for the resale. The other issue I have had is the fact that I have to hit the motor part with a hammer to get it to go.. Total CRAP in my opinion.

On the brighter side... Does anyone know if the Warn Power Plant is worth the money. I was thinking about replacing the Mile Marker (all it is good for is marking how many miles you have to walk cause your damn truck is stuck in the mud and the POS won't work long enough to pull you out) with the Power Plant but was wondering if it would air my 39's up without taking forever?

I replaced my MM 12,000 after it let me down when I needed it most (second time I tried it) with a Warn Power Plant 12,000, and love it! It airs up my 38's with no problem and will pull all day without overheating. It's a little slow, but not too bad.:waytogo:

Mm Vs Warn

Thanks for all of info.. Do you think there is any chance of getting MM to send out a recall and refund for the crap they sell?? :D

Glad to hear it will air up a 38" tire.. How long does it take per tire?

Here is my entire fun time trying to get my winch to work........ Sorry so long but enjoy the read

The first one that I received at the door had a side heat indicator feed through that is made of plastic that was busted. I drove it back out to the shop and then had to wait 2 weeks for the new one to get to the door. I got the new winch after that and the first time I used it it stopped about half way in.
Turned out to be a cracked solenoid.

I called the warranty department and they said they would ship me out a new solenoid. This one showed up about 2.5 weeks later and had a freaking crack in it! Also had a tag attached like it may have been an old one sitting in the warehouse. Not the crack is in the exact location where a wrench would apply pressure to the case while tightening the cables on... USED AND RETURNED???

Called them back and sent them the above pic. The warranty department then sent me a new solenoid. After 3 more weeks of winch down time (total 7.5 weeks) I got this in the mail. The one on the left is the one I needed, the one on the right is the one they sent. What the hell, it grew a nipple for my application? I don't think so.

This is the funny part.... Notice that crack in the part when it arrived... Even if it had been the right part for my winch it wouldn't have worked with a crack so damn big you can place a penny inside of it!!!

So, after all of this I finally get it going somewhat.. (The free spool still doesn't work unless you are a body builder and can get it to pull out) and we hit the trail. I get stuck in a big mud hole and my brother can't get close enough to pull me out... No problem, I have a MILE MARKER winch.. I will just use that!! :doah: We try to free spool it out... no luck. So we try to power it out but nothing happens.. I get the trusty winch starter out (2lb hammer) and hit it on the motor end a couple of times. "IT'S ALIVE"... for about 15 feet and then it died.
I talked to the warranty department again about the free spool issue and they suggested that I take it apart and check for debris..... The damn thing has never been used, how could it possibly have debris in it!!!! I give up!
:angry1:
Time for a WARN!!

Call them back up and tell them your are very dissatified with there product and would like a refund. See what they say, they may let your return it for your money back if your lucky.

Well, as of 10:28am today.. I now have a WARN Power Plant HD on it's way to my house.

Sweet. This is a good tread for those asking about buying the cheaper winches. You get what you pay for. Then you have to spend even more money to replace it with a warn when you could have done it right in the first place. I speak from experiance to bought the cheap MM now run a warn.

Great info in this thread. Now i know to only buy a Warn

Just something else to add tho, what about the Tabor series winches ( formally known as MAGNUM) from warn, they are cheaper with only a 1 year warranty.

Curious if you might have the save problems or maybe they wont last near as long as a normal warn winch

That is a good question. I haven't heard good or bad about the tabors.... Will have to do some research on that one.

I purchased the extended warranty on the Power Plant... LIFETIME with NO questions asked through 4 wheel parts. The guy said I could throw it off a cliff and they would still give me a new one with no questions asked. Couldn't go wrong there. I bought my MM through them but didn't know about their in store warranty and they didn't offer it to me either. I wonder if they knew something about the MM's??
Hahaha :D
