1/2 ton status
hey all, im really confused at this point. ive been tryin to swap out the rotors on my 1986 M1009. ive got all the parts, but ive been havin a helluva time finding the tool to remove the lock nuts on the locking mechanism. i bought the tool specifically for the 3/4 ton chevy trucks from that year range, but it had four pins instead of six, ive tried to rent the tool kits for removing lock nuts, the six point tool isnt in there, so i finally found a tool that is the combination six and four pin socket. but here is my confusion. i know ive got the 8.5in 10 bolt axles front and rear, but the application chart on the tool says the 4 pin is for chevy and GMC 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton 4wd trucks from 1960-1991, but that the 6 pin is for chevy and GMC trucks 3/4, and 1 ton 4wd with the 10.50 diameter ring gear from 1980-1991.
so heres my confusion. i know ive got the 8.5in ring gear, its obviously a 10 bolt and not the 14 bolt 10.5in gear axle. So did the military blazers all use the same front axle despite the rear axle option? so that you would use the six prong tool meant for the 14 bolt axle equipped trucks????
