so a guy i bought my trany and t-case from yesterday was parting out a military 3/4 ton burb. he said it has 4.56s gears in the front and rear with a detroit... is that right. i know the military trucks usually run 1 ton gear locked but what about burbs? what rear end do they have SF or FF? locked or not? no 205? 4.56? just wondering.

I have only seen 1 military burb and it was NOT like the cucv's it didnt have the 6.2, the grill gaurd or any of the other military stuff. Basically it was a stock suburban with green paint and stenciled lettering. Sometimes you see cars the same way just an old caprice classic with army green or navy blue or grey and stenciled letters. I think they whre just urban transport vehicles used in and around base.

The Air Force used some in their blue at air bases for bomber crew vehicles. That is all I know. I have seen them on gov liquidators.

Affirm... they did not have 4.56 gears and did not have detroit lockers. they were civilian models painted in military drab and there were very few of them. Most of the older ones were considered 3/4 ton even though they were a half ton model (with a few 3/4 ton exceptions that were actually 3/4 ton), the later models (92 and newer) were stripped down civialian models. All of them were gas as they were used only on bases, and well, there's plenty of gas on the base. They were primarily used for flight crews at bomber bases, but most crews prefered the trucks and small buses (short bus) over suburbans so most were relegated to motor pool general purpose

I think the only way it would have those axles would be if they swapped them out of an m1008 pickup to make it more similar to the miliatary trucks.

i didn't think they did either. he said it was a ff but i think they came with a SF because most stock burbs do...(atleast the one i owned did). i dont think it had any locker either and I'm almost positive they did not have 4.56s they probably has 3.08s or something like that. and he had the engine in it and it was just a 350, not the 6.2.... i think he just honestly didn't know i dont think he was lying.

It all depended on what the base needed them for. I've seen most as true 3/4 tons, but with a wide variety of options. Of course all were stripped down but I've seen both gas and diesel, 4x2 and 4x4, barn doors and tailgates. I even found one in Cheyenne that came stock with a 4-speed stick. To this day I have never found any that were true military spec vehicles (like the CUCV's and such), they all were just regular trucks with green or blue paint.:D

why didn't ya go look at it and then laugh when he tells you a d60 is under there and it's a d44?

When i bid on my 5 tsl 10 ply tires tires from a military surplus site they had 2 sand color and black suburbans, i won the tires never mounted all for 350.00 and while i waited to get them loaded on my hd we seen 2 in the corner....they had about an inch thick glass in the front and sides half the size of normal, a huge guard on the front, d60, 14bolt 235 85 16 steeltex tires, 454 injected t400,208, barn doors with no window, steel bolted all over the sides, like bullet proof or sumthin, real tuff i didnt have a camera i was pissed. i asked how much and was told its to be destroyed and not for resale, the only 2 i have ever seen.........

damn, thats a shame. i would have loved to see a bullet proof burb...hmmm its got me thinking. *i wish

it was cool 4 bucket seats with a metal console and metal boxes under the seats , a guard on the front that came over the hood and grill on one, some kind of antenna that looked like a frizbee...lol... he told me that they were getting destroyed because of if anyone got a hold of one that it wouldnt be easy to stop...he said they get scrapped complete and no parts get taken off, for no means..

Some stooge reasoning. Forget about you can actually purchase a tank or several other armored vehicles. Pay no attention to the guy who welded plates on his bulldozer and wreaked havoc in town.

An armored surburban! Now That's DANGEROUS! Can't let the public have that!:rolleyes::mad::rolleyes::mad:

It's just a SNAFU.:(

thats what i thought 2 but they wouldnt sell, i even called a few times....

Yeah what about the guy who STOLE a tank! Granted he stopped himself, but I dont think the Burb would be that hard. Getting the driver out might prove to be a challenge, but stopping the truck would be pretty easy.
