Military Crew Cab Build-Cummins swap.

I checked one of my extra clusters man it's crap. Kind of bent and the printed circuit looks fried.

Sorry

Thats frustrating about ORD. I've had issues with them before. WFO or diy4x is better imo.

That's funny, I just placed an order through them and noticed the prices online seem to be a bit cheaper then when I ordered over the phone...

Got it insured and tagged friday. Drove it to the tag office and it died. Fuel pump may be weak. Restarted when someone brought gas to prime it with. Ordered the thumpr cam. Ended up ordering the bigger one by mistake. It's the middle one. The comp website says it needs 9:1 compression. Think it'll run alright in my stock motor or should I return it and get the smaller one?

I can get the cheap set of gauges for around 60 bucks. I'm attempting to build this on a budget as I've got 4 or 5 other projects going right now. If anyone will let one go for around that let me know, as I literally have no clue on how they are priced and dont want to insult anyone.

The edelbrock is on it and running. Seems to run better. Needs tuning but I've been super busy the last two days.

Still waiting on shocks and things from ORD, which is another story in itself. Dont trust their online pricing, as no one seems to be able to follow it.

I'd run the entry level Thumpr cam unless you plan on milling the heads & higher stall converter. I've installed both cams (Thumpr & Mutha Thumpr) in a bbc and I like the sound of the Thumpr the best.

I'm on the fence on this. I'm sure I'll change the heads and do some other motor work later on. No converter, 4 speed truck. I've got a lot of work getting it running right on this carb before I get to swapping the cam in to make my mind up.

Had an old set of 40 series flowmasters. Threw them on today. Much quieter, but one collector is leaking pretty badly. Put a thermostat in it. Put an old chrome air cleaner and new filter on. Factory one hit the carb fuel inlet. Bought some plugs, have some wires laying around I'll probably throw on soon.

Drove it down back roads to get gas today. Had to prime it to get restarted after sucking more junk out of the tank. I'll probably give it a few more filters and then drop the tank if it doesnt clear up. Rear pinion seal leaks a bit. I'll fix it when I get to changing the fluids.

Cut the brush guard off. It was welded on with angle iron. The plan it to build a tube bumper for it. My friend has a bender and I'm wanting to learn to bend tube.

Bought a cheap set of gauges at the part store. Just stuck them in the factory holes for now. Might change it up at some point. 40psi of oil pressure at idle. Didn't run it long enough to see if the thermostat worked. Alternator also charges.

Some of my shocks should be here tomorrow along with the longer rear brake line. LMC sent me the wrong fuel tank lines but I was able to make the old ones work. I'm going to see if they'll exchange them for some mirrors. Installed the cheap amazon grill the other day. Pretty good fit and quality for 80 bucks.

Replaced fuel pump, solved the starvation problem. Been driving it around town a bit and it seems to be doing well. Still no shocks. Ordered last tuesday. From 38.50 to 42 to 48 dollars, in stock, fronts out of stock, none in stock and drop shipped from tuff country. Always a hassle.

I'm still looking for a used intake before I stab the cam. Changed plugs, didnt realize BBC needs straight plug wires instead of 90 degree, so the wires stayed. It's in time, just need to get a gasket and work on the carb a little more. Drivability is good, but there's a little stumble from low speed and some backfire on decel that I'd like to iron out. Power isnt bad for a truck this size but I doubt I'll win any races with 4.10's and 37's. Hopefully now its just down to the little details like mirrors and holes in the roof. I'd like to put a stereo in it if I can find some cheap boxes for speakers in the corners.

Then I'm thinking I may try to paint it. Been looking at some articles from car craft and other places. This bed is rusty and there's bondo covering rust in places, so I might try to find another bed instead of repairing the little rust I thought it had. Single stage urethane is what I've been reading about from Eastwood. Any experience with this or a similar product? Any better recomendations for a DIY job that wont break the bank? I'm not looking for perfect, or even good. Just single color 50 footer would be fine.

Big shout out to ORD. Only two weeks later and my shocks arrived.

As you can see from the picture, there is one missing. If, and I mean if, they sent the right ones I should have 3 of them on tonight.

I got the gauge lights wired up and working. Put some of the interior back together. Still need a speedo cable and to fix the fuel gauge. And mirrors. It's odd not being able to see behind you. I've been driving it almost daily around town. I had forgotten how much fun driving an old 4 speed truck was. Puts a smile on my face every time.

Haha nice gauges! I did the same ones in mine when I first put my truck together. To be honest I can't stand them. I about pooped myself one day when I looked down and didn't have any oil pressure. I did the classic tap on the gauge thing and it bounced back up. Does it all the time so I worry that one day it might just not bounce back up and I'll be stranded without a real problem other than fear of no pressure. Ok my rant is over... Really diggin this build! It's cool to see the guys on here that are putting a ton of time and money into their rigs but it's also cool to see budget builds like this going on! Keep it up man!!!

I'll be watching your build.

Front shocks are too long for anything other than flat road driving. Going to try to find some ford towers instead of dealing with sending them back. I'm assuming this truck had a blazer tank in the back at one time, and it looks like I'll have to modify the crossmember to get the right side shock in.

Got the brakes to stop dragging. Pretty sure the lines are swapped on the master, too. May have found an intake, need to call the guy next week. I've been driving it a lot. At least once a day. I've developed an oil leak that looks like its coming from the back of the intake, but other than that it's been pretty trouble free. I drove it 20 miles of highway to look at an RV the other day. Doesnt seem to mind running 65. No speedo, but estimating it on maps I'm getting about 8mpg.

Pulled it beside the GMC tonight to compare size. 39.5's on the GMC, 37's on the crew.

Trimmed the fenders in the front a bit. Went to change brake lines but wasnt able, different fitting. So I pulled the metal lines down a bit to work until I can find another line that will work.

They look cool until you realize they arent autometers. Haha. They work well enough for now. I've got another set somewhere from another K5 I bought years ago if I need a spare. It's been fun to have something to tinker with that's simple. If I want to work on something I just go do it. No reading about wiring or trying to find a part someone else has used. Just stupid simple and fun.

It's pretty popular. Always getting a wave or having someone strike up a conversation about it. I was thinking I might get it going and sell it, but I'm getting pretty attached to the thing.

Have anything sitting around that had quad front shocks?

Scored an edelbrock intake and got the smaller thumpr cam. It runs much better, but the intake is leaking, so I've got to reseal it sometime soon. It's got a pretty impressive exhaust leak at the collector now, and it's been hammered on so many times it wont come apart so I can replace the donut, so I'll probably have it redone in the next few weeks. Sounds pretty cool, but the exhaust leak ruins it for me. Hopefully I'll get a weekend off soon and get the oil leak fixed and I'll get some more seat time.

Resealed the intake. Stopped the leak, lost a water pump seal an hour later. Almost overheated on the way home. I've got a video of it idling but I've been too lazy to hook my phone to the computer to download it. Fuel pump had some blockage in the line, fixed that problem.

Shouldn't have messed with it, it actually ran with the stock cam and intake. Hopefully the water pump seal is the last of the issues for awhile so I can get the exhaust fixed and get the carb rebuilt.

I've been driving it quite a bit. Having the qjet rebuilt in place of the edelbrock.

Spray bombed the bed flat black, was rusting where the paint was flaked. Hauled it do the muffler shop and had some of the leaks fixed.

I've got an idle video uploading, I'll post it later.

I need headers, but my motor sits so low in the frame that the smog manifolds nearly hit the frame. Is there a difference between big block and diesel motor mounts? I know they're worn, but worn mouts I've had before didnt's sit this low. So I suspect there's a difference in mounts thats got the motor sat so low. Any input?
