Has anyone seen or built a "mini crawler"? I want to build something thats a single seater, 4 wheel drive, locked diffs, and isnt to wide so it can fit on atv trails.

seen guys do toy axles and 35-38" tires on tube frame and honda motor /tranny sideways to feed the axles and run all day on 5 bucks of gas and go most any place and seat 1.

I wonder how wide they are? I want something that can go on the single lane 4 wheeler trails if possible. I think most trails are around 50"s wide?

I figured I would probably need to cut the axles down a little. How would you go about doing the 4 wheel drive? I would probably do a small 4 banger engine or something not overly big, but I dont know what transmission or transfer case would be good to use.

Do like was mentioned. Honda motor and tranny stuck sideways. You use the flanges were the axles would go to each front wheel in the normal application and those turn into your front and rear driveshaf

Look up Honda transmoony for more info.

That honda motor idea sounds cool. Never heard of that
Extreme 4x4 did a 1 seater buggy buld, IIRC he used a 1.9 Integra motor and toy axles. There was a company awhile back that actually built a honda powered single seat tube buggy that they put bodies on and looked like mini monster trucks. We saw them at Bloomsburg 4x4 jambo years ago.

check out these >> http://gokartsusa.com/rhinooutdoorinternational.aspx tube chassis, honda engine, solid axles........:eek1: :eek1: holy sch-nikes, i didnt notice the price tag !!!!!!:eek1:

Patriot Mini monster trucks. I wanted one of those things in a bad way.

Well my mind is always working on new ideas, most of which never come to fruition, and one was exactly what you want to do.
Well I came up with the idea to cut a D44 down and use short side shafts on both sides, and I was going to use a 2.1 diesl engine I have with a Sammi Tcase.
Haven't gotten too far with details yet but I wanted to be able to use cheap parts off the shelf after my initial custom axle job.
I might still make this happen some day.
:dunno:

I have a yj frame that I would like to make what I call a WT FIT which just stands for "what the f#@k is that" and it be like a side by side on steroids. Everybody around here is selling off four wheelers and buying the side by sides. While I would like to have one I just cant see spending $10k on one. Even good used ones are $6k. One good thing (for me I guess) is that the price of used four wheelers has dropped because they cant hardly get rid of them.

I was gonna use some parts from left over projects and hopefully have it street legal but maybe not, two seater with a small bed like whats on a side by side. Do just tubing and no body really. Small lift on 33s or 35s, possible the drivetrain out of my blazer when I swap it out. Maybe the axles but maybe some jeep axles to cut down on the width. Just use it for hunting and checking fences and cows and stuff around the place. Yet I could still wheel it and really not hurt it to much.

The farmers/ranchers around me allow the side by sides on their land for hunting and stuff and not jeeps or toyotas or anything small like that. I guess just cause of the size difference in them. Where I go hunting though its mostly family owned land so no worries there.

here ya go. top down view of one i seen in north carolina event i was as few years ago.

I know in MI, some of the side by sides are too wide for the ATV trails.

Gotta be REAL narrow to fit ATV trails.
