Mini starters nightmare

I have a Powermaster in my 91 V3500 with a small block for about 10-years now. A couple of years ago it did start having a problem with the starter continuing to spin for a few seconds after I let off the key, but it still starts and engauges with the engine reliably. I went to Summit Racing, and bought a back up Powermaster starter just in case the one I have now craps out. Since I have had the starter for some 10-years now it is way past warranty so I just paid for another one.

I have duel Interstate batteries. Have 1/0 cables.
This sounds like the standard squarebody issue of crappy wiring to the solenoid S terminal. Has nothing to do with main cables - it's the run of wire through the bulkhead, ignition switch, etc back to the starter. This is the reason so many end up with a remote solenoid. Lots of threads on it. You can leave all of the heavy wire in place and just add a solenoid from battery to S terminal and sometimes the heat-soak or intermittent issues are gone.

@77snowwheeler I think this might be where I would start if you burn up another one.
