\"minnie-me\" blazer idea. UPDATE, IT\'S A GO!!

I just got a 91 s 10 blazer for the wife to drive for the winter. It has the typical northeast rust. I was thinkin about throwin on some bushwacker cut out fender flares ( nothing much to cut, mostly rust anyways!) throw on some 33's and give it the satin black and flames paint. and call it "minnie-me" the wife don't like that idea. but I don't think she will leave me if I do it!!

Re: \"minnie-me\" blazer idea.

I say go for it. I think that'd be really kewl.

Re: \"minnie-me\" blazer idea.

If you let your daughter paint it she will love it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Funny thing is, once its done and the wifey sees it, she will fall in love with it!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: \"minnie-me\" blazer idea.

I think it will only work if it's a 2-door. The rear wheelwell comes right up to the back door on a 4-door model. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Cutting that out and making it work right would be a challenge. I've got a '91 4-dooor that is totally cherry. Not a speck of rust anywhere. Sure makes me glad that I don't live in the land of heavily salted roads any more! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Oh yeah, check the axle ratios before you decide to throw a set of 33's on there. 3.42's were the lowest ratio available in '91. That would be marginal with 33's, but if you have something higher, like 3.08's or (UGH!) 2.73's then the truck will be a real dog with 33's. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: \"minnie-me\" blazer idea.

I figered with the 4.3/700r4 that both work very well still, it would turn 33's ok. after all this is just a winter pig. It doesn't really have to peform well. I have to start looking for a decent full size for the wife. She wants another toy.

Re: \"minnie-me\" blazer idea.

just talked it over with wife and daughter. They both think we should!! figure that!! I guess I got more work to do now!!

Won't clear 33's unless you cut back to the brake peddle. Really can't clear much more than 31's without lifting it. You can clear 32's with a 3 inch body lift but it looks like crap. Lift kits for that truck are really expensive because of the IFS.
It's cheaper to do a solid axle swap using a Jeep Dana 30 with Vac operated disconnect than to try to lift it using the IFS. The other axle to use in a swap is a Scout front 44. it's about the right width. you would have to run a spacer to even up the width with the 30.
The IFS does not stand up well to larger tries . The drag links and Idler arms will be a constant source of maintaince and replacment.

It Really doesn't matter, This is justa "winter Rig" if it lasts till spring, that would be nice. I got the truck for nothin, it needs tires anyways. I am not gonna get carried away with it. If in the spring, and the truck still runs, we will drag it into the feilds and beat the freakin snot out of it!!! and scrap whats left!! I have a set of 31's so we will see. The only expence will be fender flares. otherwise this ain't costin much!! over the winter, we will be looking for a "real" blazer for the wife. she is just getting tired of the 86 fwd lesabre she's bombin around in!!
