I picked up some 50/50 mix of DexCool, its Orange. Ive normally just used ole skool green stuff and mix it myself.

Ive heard (cant remember where) that you shouldnt mix the Orange stuff.

What say thee?

DO NOT mix those two together, they will gel up and clog the whole cooling system.

yup, propylene and ethylene don't play well together... makes this chunky translucent stuff after awhile...

but all the various ethylenes can mixed.... cummins blue, dex-cool orange, red, etc... looks funky, but works...

I always buy they good old ethylene glycol green stuff if I ever have to drain the cooling system for whatever reason.

Ive never liked the whole dex cool idea

Im looking at both bottles right now.

Exhibit A: ORANGE Colored Zerek Dex-Cool 50/50 mix (phophate and silicate free): contains; Ethylene Glycol, water, diethylene glycol, potassium hydroxide.

Exhibit B: GREEN colored Peak 50/50 , says on bottle "Mix with any color antifreeze" : contains; Water, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol.

So it looks like Im okay since they both contain same stuff.

I've seen that "mix with all" bottle as well. Kinda put off by it though, still leery of it.

IMO, I would never use Dexcool stuff again. When I did my DD intake gaskets etc, I flushed the block and cooling system, then put good ol green stuff in. (can't remember the brand)

That orange crap is just a sham. The only difference is the orange is non toxic to animals. There is no benefit or drawback to use either in a cooling system, unless you are worried sick about your fluffy that might lap up a few spilt drops.:doah:

Yeah the GOLD is the use all. I wouldn't though- We only use it to mix with the odd coolants that you have to get at the dealership and the new Fords that use it. Definately do not mix green and orange, = mud in the system

Did you pick your screen name 6 years ago, just to lead up to this post about mixing dexcool and green antifreeze? You must have ESPN or something.

On a seperate note, is this the thread where we try and post the most rumors in a single page?

No matter what reason you think the dexcool is made for, or why they are different colors, don't mix dexcool with regular, they will clog up eventually.

I've heard of people experimenting with this with no adverse effects...

(for the record, I won't mix them... just not worth the chance)

Some of the new Fords are running some kind of new coolant in them; can't remember the name, but they are ruining the heater cores because of a missing additive. I think only the cars and crossovers have it right now; the trucks and suvs are still running gold. I don't trust that 50/50 mix. I've checked them right out of the bottle before to see if they were even close and as luck would have it they weren't. So I would be checking the premix just to make sure its going to work for you.

Ive had pretty good luck with Pre-Mix. I only use it top off my radiator if Im doing something like changing thermostat or housing. If im removing hoses than ill just get full strength stuff and a jug of distilled water and do my own mix.
