MNorby's Goat - Ibex build

nice tube work Matt....anxious to see the final hood.
Diggin the driveshaft hoop as well.

Tore it down last weekend and painted the chassis. Took just about 2.5 quarts of Rustoleum Hammered Grey paint being brushed on. Starting to go back together now with proper hardware, lock nuts, and lock tight/anti-seize.

What 'make' was the Hammered Grey?
Was it just "Rustoleum"? ....or, was it a certain type?

I think id like to try that stuff as a topcoat, over colors.

And, it looks GREAT on the buggy, Norby!

Yep, just rustoleum hammer grey paint. Seemed to go on better and get the hammered effect when brushing it on vs spraying various parts.

Did you ever find a GMC grill that fits?

Not yet and don't really want to spend $150+ for one off ebay and find it doesn't work like anticipated. Will likely just build my own grill to match contour of hood and I have the bowtie emblem still from my 1st gen k5 that might fit nicely in it.

Don't know if you mentioned it earlier, but are you planning on skinning this thing with some chevy sheetmetal (other than the hood thing)? Or are you just going to put some aluminum siding on it like the floor pans on those goat built chassis? I think if you could make it work, some chevy pannels would look sick

I am just going to get some pre-colored aluminum panels that they use on enclosed trailers and roundy-round race cars. Can see the side skin template in post 215. I might be able to cut up that silverado hood and use the front part to skin the cowl.

painted chassis, final assembly=awesomer!
Matt did you paint the "roller" wheels just for this buggy build?

Don't know if it's true but it seems like maybe brush-on with all that tube work might be easier anyway. I just know from spray painting tube doors it took a lot of time and paint. But that's a lot of tube to cover either way.

Definitely not as messy and easier to get the hammered effect.

Love brushing hammered paint for that reason.

Use less paint. And it gets the hammered looks so it doesn't get a brush stroke look too it either. Win win.

Rig looks awesome.

Got a few things accomplished lately. Got the a friend to tig the puke tank to the radiator, built some side mirrors like I had on the old Sonoma, built a rear trunk floor out of an old road sign, and got some plumbing done. Waiting for a few more fittings I didn't have on hand to finish the plumbing and that will be done. Also need to find some little filter to put on the end of the vent lines, thinking those little porous brass deals.
