MNorby's Goat - Ibex build

The Ibex did good, only thing I was really watching during the race was the tranny temp as it hit 240. The cooler location probably isn't best for go fast stuff for sure. Ended up blowing out a seal on one of the old original ORI ST struts in the rear. Oil started spraying out from between the chrome and the lower black shock eye area. Going to see about sending the STs in and get upgraded to STXs and maybe add the high capacity reservoirs too. By the last lap it was making a solid thud anytime it bottomed out so took it pretty slow that last lap and we had a decent lead by then.

nicely done Matt, congrats on the win!

I really think the graphics highlight the sides now, something to focus on instead of more black.

Thanks guys. ORIs are sent in and found that the older ST models were known for bottoming out and when that happend it can crush some aluminum part in there and cause the lower eyelet to come loose and blow out that seal. He said can just add oil and check seal and re-tighten and just tighten them periodically but I preferred to get them upgraded anyways. They are also going to upgrade the piston to one with better rebound dampening too so they are a little better for the high speed stuff.

Few clips from a couple of the obstacle sections during the Yellowstone Off Road Racing (yorracing.com) Ultra4 style race in Powell, Wy on 7/26/2014. Most the clips are from obstacle sections 1 and 2. No good shots of the ledges on obstacle section 3 or much of the desert sections.

First step to try and loose some weight. Now to trade or sell my 43s on H1s for some 17" tires.

Sweet build man, nice to see one of these being built. Congrats on the win, impressive. :waytogo:

How much do those weigh per wheel?

And on the video, thats some cool footage, just a warning to others, turn your volume down before the 20 second mark! :yikes:

I like how you set the engine low and made the suspension links come up around it in the front. Is that something you planned with the wheelbase and link placement or is it planned from the goat factory?

That is part of the goatbuilt specs but that is how I would build a rig after the sonoma having the axle under the engine your bump travel is pretty limited. Had to relocate the steering pump up on the engine so the UCA can sneak up by the engine too.

Don't take this the wrong way, cause the Goat is awesome for sure, but I reeeeeeeally miss the S10. :doah::haha: I liked the look of it a lot. But hey, we all make mistakes. I'm sure you can switch back.....

At the rate the guy who bought it from me is going it could probably be picked up pretty cheap in the near future. He got it back together and wheeled it once and because of not putting limit straps back on the front it bound out the front double cardian yoke and popped it. I sent him the p/n for a new one and offered to help swap it but has never got that far.

A little update, got the rear ORIs back. Did every upgrade internally possible. Converted them to STX style, pistons that have better compression dampening, and new lower body cap with upgraded seal design. Hope to take it out this weekend and see how they compared to the old style on the track. Also remodeled my rock lights and using little pods now and mounted them up higher which also freed up space the old tab took to mount the co2 mount behind the passenger seat. I traded my 15 lbs bottle for a 10 lbs bottle so it would fit here. Its a tight fit and I need to slightly mod the handle so it goes in and out a little easier.

A little bit of an issue yesterday. Hopefully get this fixed in the next couple weeks.

All the axle components were warrantied so that is nice. Did some night playing last weekend on the U4 rock section at the Wild West 100 race. Couple shots some friends got.
