modded engine - please help

Anymore info on the cam. Solid lifter cams are not that popular anymore so I would be suprised if somone put one in a truck. Before you change the cam pull a valve cover and check out the spring set up, maybe even check the lift.

Demon carbs don't have a choke do they? This really sounds like a carb problem if it will idle fine. Cams usually won't idle if they are too big. They will load up and die at idle.

Demon carbs are available with a choke, unfortunately his engine pics all have air cleaner installed. Choke or no choke, that engine is setup for a street car, not for 'wheelin'. It needs a smaller cam and may even do better with a smaller carb.

i have been thinking of replacing the camshaf into a smaller or back to the standard one... or just raising the idle to 1000 rpm or a bit higher... i also am thinking of changing the transmission to manual..

i have tested the engine on the previous car it was on(had manual trans)... it ran perfectly and very powerful..

also, i dont really do any wheeling.. i just drive it on the road or across some of the dunes in the desert...

As stated previously, if you raise the idle that high, you'll need a higher stall speed torque converter (or a manual tranny). It'll probably scream once you get it rolling!

so your saying that a manual trans. will be enough?

If your you're happy with the power curve of that cam, I think a manunal trans would be the way to with that engine. The whole combo wouldn't be my first choice, but if I were going to run that engine I would definitely run a high stall auto or a manual trans behind it.

It might be a great cam for racing in mud drags. Maybe in a vehicle that was a ton lighter (a nice little pro-streetish 64 Nova). To get an engine with a really huge cam to idle well enough, you might have to bump the idle up to something like this:

that is exactly what the enigine sounds like.. but ofcourse i have to raise a bit...

what exactly is the componant that makes the engine so noisey??

i am not that good with this stuff... what exactly does a high stall torque converter do?

By High Stall I am referring to the stall speed of the torque converter, you'll need a higher stall speed converter to match that cam. With the idle turned up high and a stock converter, you might feel like the engine is trying to pull through the brakes when you are stopped. You also need to match your converter's stall speed to your camshaft's power band for best performance. I wouldn't go with anything too high in your case, just enough to make up for the high idle. Look at the TCI Breakaway, that seems reasonable(well as reasonable as you can get when putting that kind of motor in a Blazer:crazy: !). I hope all of this helps you, I'm sorry to keep telling you to change stuff, but that engine is really set up for a light weight street car.

i'm really feeling bad about buying this engine... what should i do to make it perfect for my Truck??

would the speed converter be enough??? if yes, can you recomend one for me?

i want my car to be good at doing stuff like this http://www.omdbbab.com/uup/pic/Default(46).wmv

That's what that engine you have is set up for, drag racing!! If that's what you want to do, I think you're on the right track. If you would have showed me that video in the beginning, I would have given you some different advice. Keep the auto trans, looks like you'll need both hands on the wheel. Do everything you can to make your Blazer light(get a soft top, fiberglass front end, etc..). Get a cage,a helmet and some good harnesses, it looks like you will be spending some time upside down! Go with a TCI street fighter converter, or something in the 2400-2800 range from someone else. Be advised that you are basically turning your truck into a race truck, so I hope you don't plan on using it as a daily driver. I don't know how much money you're looking to sink into this project, but as the old saying goes "speed costs money, how fast do you want to spend it"! To answer your question about the converter, I think a TCI street fighter would be a good choice if you're going to be sand dragging.

i am not going to be part of those drag races.. but i would like to do that from time to time... also, my wife wants to use the car for her daily drives..

most of what i want it to do in the cruise around in the sand.. and go up some dunes easly..

Try the TCI breakaway, that would be better for a daily driver. If you're not happy after that, go down one size on the cam. The way I see it is this: you've already bought the engine. Was it a bad choice? Yes. But it's yours now, so have fun with it!
