From time to time we have to make decisions regarding thread content here in the Garage forum, and in every other forum on the site. Sometimes these decisions are not easy to make, but we all do the best we can to be fair and consistant. It's not an easy job, and most of you accept the decisions we make without any problems.

However, there are a few that feel it's acceptable to berate, belittle and generally disrespect us for doing our job here. This will not be tolerated anymore. If you choose to pm or email a Mod to challenge the decision, berate them or show any overt disrespect towards them you will find yourself with a few days to reflect on that decision.

The rules are simple, and they have been posted ad nauseum...

Decisions made by any Moderator here are final, and are not up for discussion. Going toe to toe with any of us over any decision here is not recommended...trust me it won't end well for you.

Rene, for what it's worth, you have my full support. You guys have been trying to be good cops for too long already...

+1

Imo, y'all do a fantastic job! :thumb:

I read here about once a week and post here about once a year anymore, mostly because of whiners on both sides of the fence.

"The Garage" is more and more like "The Lounge" with entirely too much bench wrenching and post padding. Honestly. Take a "The Garage" thread from three years ago and three days ago and compare them.

There is no self-regulation here anymore so the moderators have to do more work. This is largely the moderators' fault due to their own actions. I mean for fsck's sake, half the people here have signatures longer than any post they've made in the last six months.

Looks like Rene's AV sais it all. I dont want to be around when the axe falls. I'm getten my post paddin butt back to the lounge.:D

BTW. Good job! To Rene and the rest of the mods.

Do we have our first candidate :doah:?

What does that have to do with anything?

I must be naive. It appears there must be alot of behind-the-scene Private messaging to the mods that doesn't get much public spotlight. I understand this by the very meaning of the beast(read: PM'ing).

What I don't understand is how the masses can feel the urge to argue with the boss i.e., TRusty, Can Can or any other moderators that have signed up to Police the board. It just doesn't make sense to me.

If you get your pee pee slapped by a Moderator, shut up. I for one would never want to have that kind of headache of working as a Moderator.

Now I don't always "like" the way the Moderators handle things, but I don't go crying to them about it. I may not respect the person, but I do respect thier Position. That is the bottom line.

The rules have been laid out and the punishment explained multiple times.

I don't understand why a person would knowingly break the rules while knowing the consequences of breaking said rules and then whine about it. :doah:
In the end the moderators have a tough job to do and I don't think any of them want to make any enemies.

I think anyone who thinks they don't need to follow simple rules should get a special invite to not come back. The other 98% of us on here don't need them flaming, hijacking and generally being miserable.

I would hate to be a moderator, there is a lot of @$$hattery around here that they have to keep track off. But, they do a good job! This is one of my favorite forum sites that I have encountered! Kudos!

I don't know if most of the members that break the rules do so knowingly. I for one have been the object of PM's from several of the moderators for things that I have posted in various threads. All of the instances involved me either not realizing something should have been posted in the classifieds or that something was said that maybe was not exactly PC but not exactly false either. But said comments are totally fine when said amoungst friends or what-have-you. I would believe that when (at least in my case) my push-back to the mods "advise" is that since I don't or haven't been a member with thousands of posts and don't really know anyone here personally there can tend to be a different standard used to judge ones posts or threads. Things I have posted that got me in hot water with the mods that a member with many "friends" on this forum would have otherwise said would have not had their hand slapped at all. Yes, I understand that in most environments people will tend to be a little easier on others they know compared to those they have never met but in a forum of this nature there has to be equity on all levels.

In the end the mods were probably correct in questioning my judgement in posting some things and they were right to inform me that this is not the time or place for this type of post but let's make sure we/they keep one standard for all members.
Thanks
Hoby

I've moderated and administrated forums in the past, so I know first-hand the BS you go through. It is probably the most unappreciated volunteer work you could ever do.

Thanks for keeping peace in order in the forums. All of your hard work makes this place a great place to get information.

Nope. I know how moderation works. I used to run an IRC server with 30,000 concurrent users. And these were predominately kids who didn't yet have a driver's license. Successful IRC servers, BBSs, and forums rely on the positive attitudes and discretion of the users to maintain themselves. It's the job of the moderators to promote this. If they do this successfully there is no guillotine that they need to roll out for a public showing of functionality.

It has to do with the fact that 3 years ago there would be no ridiculously long signatures. If the users didn't assert a little peer pressure the moderators would've.

Ahhh, you know how this stuff works from the inside :dunno: ?

Yes, it's one of the privileges of having access to a Wayback Machine (TM). See, one of the fruits of being around a long time is that you have seen some of what your pseudo-witty comment in the fancy formatting is referencing.

Close. It goes something more like "The race today is between moderators trying to keep things running smoothly and the Universe's ability to make bigger and bigger idiots."

It's one thing to mess up unintentionally and get reprimanded and take it like an adult. It's quite another to get reprimanded and throw a fit, cause grief, and be childish about it.

Couldn't have said it better.

I've disagreed with decisions made by the mods. Fine, it's their sand box & I sure don't want the job. One of those decisions upset me enough to vote with my wallet. Still their sandbox & I still don't want the job.

I don't keep up on the CK5 gossip ever since Tim joined the Band a while back. In fact, I haven't been here much because of such crap. I bet it's been since my pile of crap was in the CK5 calendar a million years ago.

While it may be their sandbox, it sure would suck for them if all that ever came to play is a cat looking for a litterbox.
