Modification you would "NEVER" do again...

im gonna get flamed for this but I wish I would have started with a Heep or Toyota. I dont have any fab skills or time to learn right now, and no one to help me out. I also dont have the money to fab or buy the tools to fab. So bolt on stuff would have been nice. Or like has been stated, already built. :doah:

i think i had more fun wheeling my stock height k5 on 35s than i have wheeling a huge truck on 42s that now breaks, and is too big for the trails around here

Back when I had Bluebeast- my 78 K5, thats all I had (3/4ton and 35s) and I wheeled it and drove it to work. It was my one and only rig...

Grinding my brakes to fit 15" rims when I should have just got 16" rims or bigger from the start. Ended up buying stock brake parts to convert back to stock.

My biggest regret is buying the truck at all. I spent the last year getting this truck ready for the trail to find out that the trail has been closed to 4x4's just last month. I have this blazer with all these crazy useless mods.

Hey... at least I'll have one hell of a mall crawler.

so far I haven't done much

but I bought a carpet kit I never used

PS> LAK2004. I would have done a Wrangler, but you can't tow nearly as much with one, you can't sleep in them, you can't load them up either. My K5 will tow the trailer that I need for Dirtbiking, I can sleep in it, and load it pretty good. So I hear ya on that one. Plus for some reason, HEEPs are so damn expensive.

Yeah, I just spent the last hour checking them out online :doah:

Another thing I would not have done was a TBI swap without a donor vehicle. I had to source the parts from multiple locations and it was not cost effective and took ten times what it should have.

wow this went from a help thread on things not to do and ended up being a blazer bashing for not having many bolt on parts idk where the true diehard k5 guys at hahahahaha

Dont get me wrong, I love my K5 and to me its the best looking rig around, BUT if you have no fab skills or no money a chevy is probably not the best thing to build.

yea i can understand that part atleast, first step to do anything on my k10 is look for grinding disc and welding wire hahahahah

I regret not building everything for my Blazer form the start...

There's no reason to buy bolt on parts... Almost everything that I bought that was a bolt on part isn't on the Blazer anymore... It was all sold, traded or put on another truck... Even with limited tools you can build everything you need for these rigs...

That being said, I would never cut a rig down to the frame and firewall again... It would have been easier to start from scratch...

before i knew any better, i bought a NEW 6 lug hub over the counter. jeez i was dumb.

doing an axle swap with polished ten bolts. didnt pay for it new, got em used. but still, it was only a matter of time before it was no good.

Thinking this might save someone here some Time, Money, and or Effort.

What mod's have been done that were at best disappointing. It can be that the mod was over priced, too time intensive, or just plane ineffective! The kinda of Mod that given a second chance to do or not to do would result in a definite "NO WAY"

Any advise... And why don't you like the mod?
The only mod I would have done, if I could do it all over again, is to leave my God-damn wallet and checkbook alone.

Get a different hobby and forget about these damn trucks. Too damn expensive and nothing ever gets done.

I wished I had a Barbie doll fetish instead. :doah:

Rear lift blocks, body lift, cutting holes in the door panels for speakers where the map pocket was.

Cutting Holes In The Doors. To install 6 inch speakers. Big mistake. Bottom front of the door is braced up pretty heavily. Once I started I had to continue, took some serious cutting. Ended up pulling out the O2/Actylene torch. Use your imagination.

boatsides?????:woot:

I'll never start building someone else's 'project'. I prefer to start from stock and unmolested and work from there. My '81 I had I bought lifted, on 33's, definitely had been wheeled.

Every modified part ended up going, and the basic's I had left turned out to be bent, twisted and otherwise damaged. Finding the frame bent most of the way through a build is frustrating, and it led to so many other issues. In the end I threw up my hands, pulled the spendy parts and sold the rest. I say sold, but even that was a clusterfukk because the deadbeat never actually paid me anything.

I love working on my '90 I currently have...for a couple of reasons. It was dead stock and hadn't been messed with (much), and I know exactly how I want to build it. The second time around is much more enjoyable, and half the money.

Westy, why not get into RC? I heard that's pretty cheap...:sign18:

Complete body swaps,I have done three and while it is a cost effective way to get unrotted sheetmetal I think the smart thing to do is but something from out west! By the way I am looking to do my forth!:doah:
79 sub 2wd/4wd,67 panel 2wd/4wd,63 f100/65 f250.

Not only no, but hell no! That crap costs more than Barbies! The plus side of Barbies is that you can look at a naked body all day long and you won't feel bad about it. :doah::doah::doah::doah::doah:

Try doing drag racing, off-roading, and R/C. Talk about being broke all the time. In many ways.
