those who have done this, what have you done to utilize the factory defrost vents? I have the summit version of the mojave heater and need to run one side to defrost. so what have you done? thanks

I ended up running a section of the hose that came with it and shoved it into the defrost vent...of course you lose some of the air flow...I've got my ears opened now, hopefully someone can come up with something :D

Only thing I can think of so far is to make a plate out of ABS plastic and adapt the hose they give you to it

I'm interested after the debacle changing my heater core was last week.

5 hours of fun! Blech...

This thing ever dies I'm all over a Mojave. Where'd you guys mount yours?

Woo, and I thought I was brave running without heat in the low 40's...

:D Im not driving it yet though. I still need to reregister and get insurance for it. And finish up my tbi swap that has been ongoing for almost 2 years :doah:

When I finally get around to running a Mohave I Plan on running one side for defrost and one side for the dash vents. Im going to eliminate both vents near the Guages though.

the summit unit basically has that already... this is a round peg in a square hole situation...

the bottom of the y-diverter up to the defrost is a long rectangle... round flex hose out of the heater...

since the outside of the rectangle is bigger than the hose is around, you can't stretch the hose over it..

i was either gonna fab up a cover plate for the end of the y to convert it to the round size... or block it off, and slap a hole above it the diameter of the hose.. stick hose in hole...

you could always just ditch the y too and run the hose right up to the dash opening on the driverside..

Yeah, I plan to eliminate the drivers vents anyway though. I already eliminated the lower left on my trucks. I drive with the window cracked year round or all the way down in the summer on everything away.

When I first got The Blazer I was amazed at how many dash vents it has. Big Ugly has none. Defrost and floor. I find myself only using those settings on The Blazer as well.

i hate dash vents in any vehicle.. all i ever use is floor and defrost..

Your not alone here, Mnstrburbon and myself have the same heater.
Have not installed them yet but, soon we will.
I'm thinking behind the glovebox mounted sideways. As for the ducting, Vintage air has parts in their catalog that may help.

Sat in the garage and figured out this problem.
I took some 3" black ABS PIPE and a 3" drain cap to use as a coupler for the duct. Pulled out the defrost duct and did some modifying to fit the pipe. Cut a 2 1/2" x 4" section out of the side of the pipe and pop riveted it in then sealed it with RTV.
Now I have a 3" opening at a 90 degree, $8.00 and 2 hours work.

The duct on top is what we have ,below is modified.

This end will go strait to Mohave Heater
