Monster tranny

Is the aluminum pan you put deeper than stock?
I know mine is and it takes a little more.
And you say you put 3.5 qts, I say you are low.

Nope is not a deep pan. But it did this very thing before I even messed with the pan. When I was having all those issues with Tcase shifter

I know 4 quarts came out when working. What I drained filled a gallon milk jug. I can add more and see.

At this point, I dont trust this transmission. Id rather just replace or rebuild it.

I need to modify a lot to go 700r4 dont I, drives shafts, kick down etc? We can dm that so as not clog this post

Definitely check fluid. Mine started acting really weird.....sure enough, low on fluid. Put in two more quarts and good to go!

It would be very odd to loose all ranges all at once after linkage adjustments or repairs. When you put the selector into park with the engine running do you here a grinding noise? If so it would indicate the transfer case is in neutral If there is no grinding noise, and the vehicle does in fact hold park when you try and push it, then I would suspect low fluid level. You should be able to find that out by checking the fluid with the vehicle running in park. Unless the dipstick is wrong or you changed the filter and put it on backwards filling it to the full mark should get your gears back.

Fluid is what drives everything in the transmission. It's what's used to push the clutches together and move various parts around. 3.5qts is nothing. I put a gallon in mine when it was at the bottom of the dipstick. Stock capacity is 10-11 qts including the converter.

Vehicle holds park and no grinding... Filter is on correctly, i wasn't aware the filter could even mount incorrectly. Hahah.
I will head over to Oreillys and grab 2-3 more quarts.

The main reason Im fighting the fluid level opinion is that. I had this issue before when it was filled to the proper level. When I changed to ord twin stick, I changed the filter and gasket as it was leaking. It worked, Drive Reverse etc.

This new pan and gasket have the same fluid levels as before and now Drive and Reverse wont engage.

I’ll take the suggestions and add more fluid. I hope that fixes it.

If it has sat for a long time the converter may have drained and you'll have to let it refill before things will start working again also.

Yeah I know it is frustrating, but before you decide it is bad and spend hundreds of dollars, give it another $10-15 and make sure it is bad.
My guess it isn't.

Welp, you and others here, haven’t steered me wrong thus far. I hope this trend continues. Im headed to the store for some tranny fluid. fingers crossed.

I was just suped stoked to finally go drive this damn thing today. Ive been plugging away for months. But the Gods weren't having it.

x2 he is the guy here . helped me a lot and also shipped parts i needed fast and 100% on point .

monster has screwed a lot of people i know who have tried them .

years ago my 1 truck had a th350 and if it was 2/3 qrt low from full it would do tons of weird things and almost not move .

Ok, I added 1.5 quarts. Cycled through all the gears at 190 degrees. What took 4 quarts for it to move before, took 5.5-6 to move this time.

And welp, this bastard of a Blazer has Drive and Reverse
My wife begrudgingly took video of it moving in the garage as I smile like a pig in shiz. She’s walking with me, but you can hear the rpm change when the gears engage

With my luck Ill wake up tomorrow to some sort of ATF puddle under the truck, probably where it was weeping earlier today.

Now wait till tomorrow and then start it and check for the fluid level, you might need to add a pint or so, just make sure it is at least at the minimum level if you are worried about overfilling and leaking.

Ok...
before I added the additional 1.5 quarts. I let it get to op temp and the fluid just got the tip of dip stick. So I added the 1.5, cycled through the gears a few times and went back to check. It’s presently at the top or just shy of “full” marker.

But Ill do what you say tomorrow. I have a drain plug on the pan now. So i can drain it easily now.

The dipstick will have a hot and cold mark, if you just start it you want it at the bottom of the hatching which is for cold fluid
