Montana 1980 K5 Jimmy Build

Yeah, the kids can be a bit fickle. Some days all they want to do is turn a wrench, other days it's Legos or video games! Seems like "small doses" does the trick, otherwise they get burnt out.

Exhaust is done and dusted - 2.5" duals through turbo mufflers. Sounded pretty throaty at startup - anxious to hear what it's like with some revs! IMG_4224[1].JPG

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Big weekend. Got the bed and cab home from the boasters! Got a few fuel leaks fixed (Summit -6 AN fitting are crap BTW), laid down epoxy on the bed, welded up some patches, and smoothed the firewall. Not bad for a Saturday!

Very nice build. Can't wait to see it rolling and running. Out of curiosity were those Sport King tires that were on it originally? I had a set of those on my 77 Jimmy back in the 90's and I loved them. Can't find them any more but I have heard tales they can still be found around Pennsylvania and surrounding areas.

Good looking build, I'm surprised you had problems with the summit racing fittings. I've used them probably 5 different vehicles and had great luck so far.

I chalked it up to operator error at first, but then I noticed that every Summit fitting downstream of the pump was leaking, but the Earls fittings all held fine. Funny thing, they didn't leak on the hose end, but at the seat. Maybe a batch of out of spec dimensions? In all fairness, I was able to fix with new Summit female ends.

Thanks! You and me both! I think they were Sport Kings - I still have the spare. I will check tomorrow. I liked the stance (33"x12.5") and tread pattern on the originals, but the rubber was horribly deteriorated. Figured we might as well squeeze in 35's since we needed new shoes anyway!

I am sticking with 33's but going with General Grabbers. If I could find a set of those Sport King's new I'd pick them up again in a heartbeat, lol

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Haven't updated in a while. Got the cab back on the frame with the help of some neighboring college kids easily bribed with home brew. Herculined the inner quarters then got them welded/bolted in. Don't have pics from this weekend, but got doors and fenders body worked and primed. Missed my weather window for paint, but plenty to do this winter!

If I was single I'd ask if your wife has a sister or cousin since I'd like this sort of understanding in my life as well...

Love you honey of you ever read this post, and no, I did not spend any money or time on the truck.
