More 05-06 silverado questions

Oh yeah? What did you put on?

just a simple Magna Flow, i used the OE tail pipe because i wanted to look stock. was super cheap through a local muffler shop.

very quiet still, yet the power was great, and we do long highway trips and i didnt want anything too noisy

Ok good to know. I'm well out of the dual exhaust stage. For a driver I just want it to be quiet, and pretty much the way it came off the line. I've got beaters and projects to be loud.

Same here,

Personally, i hate loud junk for for the fact of being loud, but like a nice sound, even if its loud, just not loud stock stuff.....like staight piped 4 cyls.....but straight piped diesels...OK

Ok got a couple more questions.

1. I've got some sort of cold air intake on here, it bothered me at first, but I've gotten used to the noise now. Is it worth keeping? A guy at work wants to trade his factory air filter setup for it. I'd rather not have the issues of dealing with the cone filter, I'd rather toss the old one out, and put the new one in and be good.

2. I picked up oil and a filter today, and noticed the filter (pf46e) is about the size of a lawn mower filter, is it worth finding a longer filter, or am I over thinking things? I know these are much better engines than even the TBI engines are due to technology, and therefore not as dirty and having much better machining tolerances.

Check the brake lines right under the drivers side door right before they go into the ABS unit. They are know the rot out. Best bet is use SS lines, kits will run you around $350.00.
Blower motor resistor (No low speeds) Make sure you replace with a HD harness too ( buywiring.com makes a good one.
The only other problem I ran into is throttle electrical system....It can drive you nuts if the common fixes don't work. But most of the time it's a wiring issue.
They are the biggest problems I ran into in the 192000 miles I've put on my 05 2500HD.

The factory air box flows plenty of air. The real restriction is the factory air tube with all the noise cancelling built in. Airaid makes a replacement tube so you retain your factory air box and paper filter. I'd just leave the cone filter in place until its dirty then go from there.

I drove a 6.0L 3/4 suburban (04) a few years ago and it had the K&N on it. I too, remember it making quite a bit of noise. A lot of noise and not a lot of "fast". I'd opt for the stock air intake. I don't think you're going to notice too much.

Also, the 3.42 may be the lowest they have. When my dad bought a Tahoe, I recall looking at the options and 3.42 was the "towing" gear ratio. Kinda strange I thought.

I don't know if it's just 3/4 ton trucks or not, but my "auto 4wd" transfer case had a failed retainer clip inside the unit that caused the pump to rub a hole into my case housing, spitting out t-case fluid everywhere. Double check and see if the 1/2 tons have this issue. Just good to know about.

As far as oil filter, I'll give you wix part numbers.

The 1042 is smaller and most shops put it on, however the 1522 is the large capacity replacment. Sold at Napa car qquest or any place that sells wix

The stock air box flows plenty of air.

The Tcase problem is on all
