more mpg out of suburban

I will register over there so I can see your pics...the vid was cool...

lots of folks here do the 6bt swap, I just don't do any heavy towing, so it would be overkill for me...

I've got the diesel bug bad since i joined here... I get goose bumps listening to the fedex trucks...:pimp:
The new ones use a isb170. I don't know what you know about them, but they are a common rail 4bt that is 170hp/410ftlbs. That would be a bad mamma jamma, also if you google "cummins nissan" there are reports of the Titan coming out with a 2.8 isf cummins 4cyl. They are expecting 28 mpg average and the power is very similar to the mechanical 4bt. I would love to get a hold of that motor, but it would cost 7000 to get here from China not that I've looked into it.

I love the diesel sound too. I grew up with 2 uncles and my grandpa all owning trucking companies. Plus my dad has driven a truck my entire life. I will be deffinately looking into it.

Alright finally figured out how to post a pic.

Ummm, you need to work on it a little more unless you put a pic of a red x up on purpose........:D :sign10:

410 ft/lbs is perfect for my intended useage...:waytogo:

i picked up a bone stock 93 'burb 1500 4x4.with gas prices being what they are, i go over to rhode island and fill up once a week.i average 465-480 miles per tank.works out to be just over 12.5 mpg.as long as you dont mind being they guy doing the speed limit and losing every green light race, these trucks are ok on gas.

Stick with the 350 TBI setup, they got the best mileage out of this generation of blazers and burbs. The 3:73's seem to work great with stock 31" all season street tires.
When I bought mine I was averaging 11 to 12 mpg commuting to work, it ran really good, but not as good as I thought it should/could. After a year of tinkering and rebuilding/replacing things, I could average 15 to 17 mpg's consistently while driving it conservatively for fuel mileage.
Things that helped:
1. Cleaning/rebuilding the throttle body
2. Fixing the intake manifold gasket leak(vacuum leak I couldn't find) and replacing the TBI base gasket
3. Setting idle and timing back to factory specs
4. New O2 sensor, IAC sensor, and TPS sensor
5. New EGR valve (mine seemed fine, but was sticking occasionally)
6. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.
7. Replacing the 180* thermostat with the proper 195* one!!!
8. K&N filter in stock air cleaner housing with some mods
9. I've done some other mods that helped with seat of the pants power, but made no difference in mileage

Unless someone has purchased a modified TBI this should not be adjustable. The idle screw is capped.

The 7747 ECUs have a highway lean cruise mode but I'm pretty sure you need to change some settings in the program to get it to come on. With it on I believe Eaglemark is getting almost 18 mpg out of a blazer. I wouldn't think that number would be possible on heavier suburban.

I agree. Even the EPA government ratings for this truck on the highway were 16 mpg when they were brand new and we all know government ratings for fuel mileage are all diluted with them based on what they can get after being pushed off a cliff.
