Another source for motivation for me is getting into an argument with the wife. I get pumped up, have to go into the garage and cool down. While there, I screw around, and it turns into, "I should do that now". Come to think of it, I am now off to mount my winch in the bed.

It helps to break a big job into smaller steps and then schedule yourself times to do each part. For example, to change a tranny, use 1 day to pull the driveshafts and T-case. Then another to drop the tranny. Maybe a session to prep the new tranny/torque converter, etc.
If you still have problems making it happen, set up for a buddy to come help. Then you're going to work on it even if other stuff is going on.

A big part of getting things done is help from friends,Myself anymore spend 90% of my time solo as everyone else is at work or no longer interested,or to farking crazy and like total carnage every time out. At near 50 years old Ive wasted as honest 200K on vehicles easy not including bikes withc is another story. I myself am getting to the pint of if it dies in the middle of nowhere I think id just assume take the winch off it and my belongs and be on my way,however that wouldent be the right thing to do environmentally.
Although I still enjoy the rig I feel frequently its time for me to move on,no more greasy broke down rigs to wrench on, time to look back and enjoy what fun I had and spend more time on the bikes,horses,fishing or better yet the family. If your truely in the mindset you despise wrenchin and keepin up on it then move on,its OK ya know.

hey apache, you remind me of a older guy that came and bought a truck i gave up on, it needed an engine because the crank was knocking, i sold it to him after i got the crank ground and purchased new bearings, he was 70 and walked hunched over, and he was building the truck for his daughter because she needed a dependable vehicle...so sometimes family and wrenching can be the same thing 
I really admired the guy, he had a shop and had been wrenching for a long long time, i thought of how i hope im still doing stuff like that when im 70.
blue85 your sig is so true, they also clog up traffic driving so much and wear out roadways because they are always on them, and what about $6000 worth of batteries? what happens when they need to be replaced and the car is only worth $500.... it will not be recycled like a blazer is...nobody scraps blazers...they are too valueable for recycling. :-)

the idea of swaping trannys in this thing for the 6th time really sucks.

2nd-broken th350 case
3rd-burnt 700r4-didnt even drive it was bad when installed
4th-leaking front seal on th350-didnt drive it was leaking after install
5th-th400 now with a broken case-has all the support bars and thick lower cover.
the rig performes beyond anything i expected from it,just sick of the tranny issues

I've pulled probably 15-20 automatic trannys. I told myself when i pulled the last one **** that!! Went with the 465 and never looked back. Even th9ough i've had to pull it a couple times with mud in clutch issues
well get the tools ready we'll be out in a bit !!
im done.just found a branch threw the windshield of the troll and theres nowhere to get a new one in the us.europe or austrailia are the only places i know of to get one so im partin and sellin all the wheelers.goin back to street rods and sleds

The best motivation is seeing another blazer goin down the road. That happened to me tonight and it's 11 now and I feel like going out there and doin something. Anything haha
I find that the longer I stand there and look at the project, the more demotivated I get with it. I find that if I stop worrying about how much work it'll be, or how many friggin' times I dropped that transmission out, or pulled that engine out, and just do it, its done before I know it.
I just swapped a 6.2L diesel out in my wheeling truck outside over the last week or so. I've still got a few things to do on it, but I find I just need to get to work and it seems to finish up faster than I would expect!

I need to change raidators in my DD. I'm lettin it cool now since i just got home. I doubt it gets done tonight. I HATE working til almost dark

Big Ugly hasn't been touched since November other than when I used it to pull the SIL's Explorer out of the slush in my driveway the weekend after Xmas. It's just damn cold out there and screw it, I don't want to dick with it. After working all day, coming home, shoveling snow for at least a half an hour, helping the wife make dinner, eating, doing dishes, and the like...well screw it it's 8pm and I don't want to spend the next hour or two out there in the cold.
Last year I had a whole laundry list of things I was going to do out in the garage all winter. Did practically none of it. This year I'm realistic and made sure I had nothing to absolutely have to be done.

Well looks as though i had the motivation but the wrong part. Go figure. So another day my truck gets to leak $11/gal anitfreeze

That's what it runs here. I've found it at walmart for $10 though
I hate to see what the orange **** runs. Last i checked (last winter) it was $15/gal.
hit a tree with my work truck (2001 Chevy) and broke the coolant reservoir so i lost alot of coolant. I hated buying that ****
Jeesh, dunno what it is now but I know the stuff I have sitting in the garage from NAPA wasn't that much two years ago.
