cool deal, Ive been wanting to try lucas, but a buddy of mine who maintains a fleet of truck used it one time. Next oil change the pan looked like a bubble bath! He about ****. I guess the stuff is known to foam up?
yeah, the lucas is known to get foamy. the other thing it'll do is fall out of suspension and stay in the pan once it's exposed to combustion temps for a few miles..
additive drop out is already an issue with synthetic and conventional oils alike, ( due to conventional oil's inability to absorb heat, and the PAO / ester synthetic oil inability to keep additives in suspension ), so using a heavy oil as an additive is kind of going backwards.
what you want is something that promotes film strength without increasing drag and friction, or changing the viscosityof the host oil.
that's the thing about oil additives - they're a combination of petroleum, metallics, polymers, chlorine and wax. they do nasty things under combustion.. like leave deposits, and change the viscosity of the lube.
anyway, as for a recommendation - if you want to go the inexpensive route, just buy valvoline or something like that, and dump it and the filter at 3K..If you had no interest in my stuff, I'd rather see you do that then spend good money on a synthetic, and not be better off.
Synthetic isn't what it used to be, and although there are some upsides, it always did have some performance drawbacks..rather than piss everyone off with a rehash, you can search "synthetic oil" here, and dig for my posts - the info is still valid.
If you are really committed to using amsoil or something like that, be aware that the drain intervals have shortened up to compensate for the reduced anti wear additives ( unless you are buying what's known as a "full zinc" racing oil) ..as always, if you are gonna do the extended drain thing, get the oil analyzed so you know what your engine is up to.
