My truck makes a ticking noise that starts at 1800RPM+ it sounds like a loose rocker, I've checked them and they were all ok. Couple of questions all could be culprits of the noise.
Background: 383 Gm fact roller block, comp cams hyd flat tappet cam, 882 casting steel heads, with 7.794 pushrods, eagle rotating assy.
1: When I built the motor, I noticed that I had to turn the adusting nuts on the rockers almost all the way down. I never thought that was normal. The mostor pulls 15in of vacuum, so they have to be OK.
But is it normal to have to tighten the nuts down all the way?
I replaced the stock nuts with the poly-locks, the ones with the allen lock screw. Thinking maybe a nut was backing off.
2: When I push the clutch in, and tach it up the noise *typically* goes away. If I'm cruising and hear the noise, I'll blip it and the noise will go away, until I go back to constant speed.
I've had the t-case (205) in neutral and the tranny in 4th or 3rd. Both gears right at 2k it start to tick. I used a screw-drive as a probe to listen to things, tranny makes a funny as ticking noise. Doesn't do it in L 1st or Reverse.
Would this mean a bad bearing or synchro? Worn shift fork? I replaced the cover because the top on the old one was cracked, and there wasn't any plastic sleeves on the tips.
If this made no sense, please let me know. If it did anybody have any input?
