That has to suck that your wife rules your hobby. I'm not being facetious, it's just that the whole concept is just alien to me. Unless you have no financial self control? Does she not trust you or have any respect for your interests? Clearly the 8.1 you already have makes the most sense right now.

I bought a clapped out non driving 51 year old muscle car on our 6th wedding anniversary while my wife was 6 months pregnant with our first child.
Point being I can't imagine my wife controlling my engine needs that much.
Feel sorry for a bother.

is what it is..
been that way for 29y. no need to change it now... but yes.. kids, house, bills etc.. i get that.. this was more of a.. i bought a motor without discussing and got her fired up..hah... to which i understand... partially..

Me and my wife don't share money.
We have our bills setup so we roughly pay the same per month.
Beyond that our money is separate.
So when I'm buying parts or tools. I have to have the money myself.
Also as an unwritten rule, no hobby stuff is every bought on credit.

We have made it work for 11 years of living together.
