Mr. Clean's dune cruising 71' K5 "Oprah" beams, links, and turbo ls powwwa

Blazer will still be capable of driving to the dunes under its own power, and swapping out tires. Run the paddles all day and swap back and drive home. Yee of no faith :haha:

I'm like the air bump and suspension upgrades, nice plan! The paddes are definitely better for 2WD, makes it easier to get everywhere with less effort. I found in racing though that I just blew them off and didn't go any faster, so I never put them back on. I think for racing and power the large scoop paddles would be the way to go. But for your rig and the dunes and in 2WD, those paddles will probably work great, I bet you will like them.

Yah i didnt want the bigger digger style scoops that all the bbc nitrous guys run at the drag strip all day. I would probally barely be able to turn them. My blazer probally doesnt even make 200hp at the wheels and im okay with that. I like suspension and momentum. The style paddle i got is what all the long travel guys run. Paddles are only about 1 1/2" tall and lots of them. They should help make it easier on the blazer to carry momentum in 2wd.

If you ever get tired of the paddles. I've seen a lot of guys have really good luck using circle dirt track tires. I ran pismo with a guy that had like 16" wide dirt track tires on his bronco. Did amaze balls cuz they float and grab without digging all the time.

Actually now that I think about it. He drove his junk there and then swapped the rears to play.

My only worry with paddles is they do seem to suck a little power. But you won't know for sure until you try it out! I have a hunch that you will be satisfied. But left with a desire for more power!

I still see guys do this at Pismo.

Well with a gear swap im really hoping i will be fine. Im not so big on have a huge hp motor. Its all about suspension and being able to carry momentum for me.

which I think is more important at SL, than HP....the terrain is a lot rougher than other dunes I've seen videos of... you guys need to get the GO PRO on the suspension!

Well been a while since I have been on here, and mainly because just been super busy with life and work and with how cold it was this winter wasn't spending any time in my unheated shop. But with summer and warm weather starting to pop up more and more I was finally able to get back to the blazer. I have a few projects I started in the fall that I need to finish up so I can get this thing out and get it out on the sand.

So today I finally got my rear springs tore apart today and was able to really quickly cycle and measure and from what I measured I am at 9"s of travel. I was really expecting/hoping for atleast 11"s out of these springs. Now I have to check tomorrow but I feel my shocks may have been limiting my droop and I think my shackle is too short. You can kind of see in one of the pics at bump my spring looks wavey? The shackle was fully extended and I feel the spring had more up travel to go but the shackle was causing it to bind? Thoughts? I was really shooting for 11"s and i'm still going to try. I want to move my shocks and get them vertical over the axle and I also am going to go to a longer shackle and see if I can get my 2 more inches.

What springs are those? Thought you had 64's? I thought they had more travel then that.

Springs are 63"s out of 90's pick up. These ones are like 4" bds springs iirc.

ouch
yeah, I'll say the shackle looks too short. That main leaf should be able to go completely flat. So either your shackle is too short or your frame bracket needs to get moved back AND your shackle is too short.

I'd start off with at least a 1.5" longer shackle and go from there. I run 6" shackles with my 56s.

You sand guys measure droop differently, since you aren't worried about articulation. If you were, you'd see the massive numbers you were hoping to get. My 7 leaf stock 56s use all of my 12" shocks. My rear will tuck nicely, but droop is limited by my shocks :(

Yah your shackle is too short and binding the springs on up travel. I bet you can squeeze another 2" out of them on uptravel easy with the correct shackle.

Note how mine are a nice straight spring, and yours start the bend out towards both ends...

Yah we dont really care about articulation. I did articulate mine just to make sure nothing hit anything just in case i get into a strange situation. All ended up working fine though.

Just an fyi nate, if you are not able to use all of that shock with 11" or so of spring travel, you should sell those shocks and get a shorter shock. They are 14" or 16" shocks if I remember correctly. A 12' will be easier to package and get the angles better.

Weird, im recommending a shorter shock I know....

But if a 12" shock is tipped forward just a little bit, you can still get 13-14" of travel out of it. No reason to have those long shocks if they are doing no good. A vertical shock will work %50 better than a shock at 45 degrees.

Another note.... If you are crawling, IMO it is really not so bad to max a shock out on articulation. But if you are going fast in the dunes and constantly maxing them out in either direction, you are gonna kill them WAY FAST.
