Mr. Clean's dune cruising 71' K5 "Oprah" beams, links, and turbo ls powwwa

Go with the spool. You will be glad that you did. I would just go with a full spool and not a mini spool. Saves weight, less rotating mass, Simpler, And should be stronger.

These are the times you have to ask yourself is this a true toy or somewhere in between...

The best of both worlds would be a good locker but obviously it's more money that could be spent in other areas of the build.
I was welded out back and it sucked on the street. It pushed me through turns and chewed up tires FAST. It wasn't my daily driver but I would cruise it up to the store or school every once in a while.

Two third members??? One spool and one open. Swap em when you want to drive on the street... :haha:

hmmmm now theres an idea

But in seriousness I am just going to spool it. Its cheaper, guaranteed traction, and It won't see much road use. I trailer it to the dunes, and I don't drive it anywhere from my house. That may change down the road, but for now a spool should do me fine.

Hoping my back bone truss kit shows up this week yet. Going to go look at getting some sand blasting equipment in the morning and blast the axle and get the perches cut off and then strip it done. Ready to start welding on something.

Well plan was to buy a refurbed turnkey ls from pacific fab, but when you get offered an ls for $300 you dont pass it up.

Other news truss for 9" should be showing up tomorrow and trans should be back from builder next week.

Chits gonna start happening soon enough:D

Does nobody actually read my update posts in this thread haha its a 4.8L. And its actually low mileage. Guy has just had it for sale for 2 months and he says to me "Man i didnt think it would be that hard to sell this motor...... everyone wants 5.3s and 6.0s. Your the first guy in 2 months thats called me. After he said that i new i was in so i offered $300. He was asking $500. He said get it out of here!

Actually gotta a welding tig guy at work that likes to build headers for fun so he is going to get involved on a custom set of headers to a t4 flange for turbo. Im just gonna buy a bunch of pre bent manderal tube, and he is going to bring his tig over and see what he comes up with.

There's a reason for that. :wink1:

Seriously though, that's awesome you are going to turbo it. I made a spreadsheet that calculates the pressure ratio and mass air flow required to get the correct size turbo(s) for an engine. This allows you to take those two numbers and look at the compressor map from the manufacturer to make sure it won't operate in choke or surge. I can send it to you if you are interested.

Depending on how much boost you plan to run you may need to replace the plastic intake for big power.
