Mr. Clean's dune cruising 71' K5 "Oprah" beams, links, and turbo ls powwwa

I don't think he is worried about it being a very serious repair.

Nope, my guess is this coming holiday weekend may just be the last weekend this thing sees sand in its current configuration.

Parts arriving almost daily at this point. But with todays arrival, ( 2.5" echaust tubing, mount mounts). I know have atleast enough stuff that whenever i call it quits for this year the 4.8 can immediately go into the truck and hot side exhaust with turbo can start getting mapped out :thumb:

Speaking of dunes. Loaded up and ready to head out in the morning to set up camp. 5 days of dunes with the lady friend, deuling, and deulings blonde girl. Can't wait.
Gonna try and actually maybe get footage this weekend....but we will see too hard to stop having fun to remember to make video of having fun.

Although I like fender exit.. Might not be nice on the ears. I also would run the merge pipe from the driver side under..

I'm thinking "Hater Pipe" ala Rotsun right out the hood.

finally got some free time this weekend to start deconstructing Oprah and get ready for the rebuild......I wish the rebuild would go as fast as tearing it apart cause it only took me about 4 hours to have the front clip pulled and motor tranny out of it by myself.

Well here is the start of lower, faster, beamed, more expensive things :woot:

So looking for anyones tips or tricks for sand blasting. Got started on blasting the fire wall and frame today. Spent about an hour blasting, and maybe im just too impatient but i felt like not enough area cleaned up for the time i spent. The areas that were just paint were no problem peeled it right off. Im having trouble with the random spots they used some kind of rubberized coating spray. Im wondering if there is something i can spray on it let it sit for a day then come back and blast it off kind of thing. There has to be something out there that will break down the rubber. I dont want to use a scraper or wire wheel on it as i dont want the scratches in the metal that come with that method.

Good sandblasting takes a LOT of air and very little media. Most compressors won't keep up. Use the smallest orifice you can get away with on the nozzle to keep the psi up, and reduce pressure loss. Gently meter in the abrasive. It's probably like 1 part media to 100 parts air when you get it right.

With a small compressor you will have to work a small area then pause so the pressure can catch up again. Even my Quicy can't keep up when I run wide open on the sandblasted.

You'd also be smart to get that electrical bulkhead connector fully sealed up as well as the steering column.... that sand is going to get EVERYWHERE and will chew up those parts once it gets inside. :deal:
