Are these tires any good? How do they do in the sand? Any tires do better in the sand?

BFG A/T rule in the sand, I loved mine. Just have to keep them spinning.

No personal experience, but the V-tread design of those tires would be more suited to dig. Not exactly what you want in sand.

my buddy has a set of the claws on his 77 short box k10 and they work fine as long as you keep your forward momentum and keep the wheels spinnin. If you bog down they tend to dig though.

Sand running requires power to keep an agressive tire spinning. All terain tires work awesome in the sand.

I've got a wheeling budy that runs 40" TSL's on his rig. 460/C6/205 with 4.88's, has no problem spinning them or staying afloat. I've got another friend running 42" TSL's. stock 350/Th350/208 with 4.10's. He has to run in 4LO to stay moving.

Plan on running Silver Lake? What part of MI are you from?

I will definitely be up at Silver Lake. I'm from over by Grand Rapids. The only reason I'm steering away from the all terrains is I don't think they look as good as a tire with more to it. But I guess it's either looks or functionality

If this is going to be on a DD, an all terain will be easier to live with too. But buying a set of Swampers will give you a reason to build more power. :D

You can get away with running an agressive tire, but you'll have most likely have more fun with a tamer tire.

Do you plan on running any mud? If so then I'd be leaning toward a TSL or Bogger, and live with it in the sand.

This is just a toy, so not concerned about daily driving. Mostly just used on the dunes and some two tracks, that's about it

I just put Pitbull Maddogs on my burb. I never ran or or knew anyone that ran them before but I gave it a shot and I am really happy with them. I haven't tested a lot of rocks but they have worked AWESOME in sand/loosegravel and some sticky mud. I pulled out into a river sandbar when I first got them on and tested them out. I jammed the brakes a couple times to a stop and hammered down to try and see if they would dig. NONE. Just shot sand and took off every time. They muck up in real sticky stuff but a little spin cleans them right out. Also I've put about 4-500 highway miles on them and they still look perfect. They ride great on the road and are very quiet.(no whine/roar like I was expecting like a bogger).

the one time I had my rockers(42s) out in the sand they worked really well. Had a buddy tell me the growlers are AWESOME in the sand

The baja claws are made for sand... and do awesome in it. I would seriously doubt tsl's being better then the baja claws in sand. They are loud as hell on the road and not very good in sticky mud though.

I know 2 people that run Baja Claws on DD's. They both change them for less aggressive tires in the summer due to the noise.

I loved my baja claw radials. Worked great up at Silver Lake. But same with any real aggressive treads if you have the HP to keep them spinning you will do fine. Just remember to run low low pressure up there. Let me know when you head up there and I'll join you. I'm interested on how my boggers will work. But I'm thinking about picking up some 33" paddles to tool arround with in 2wd.

I havent run claws... but they seem to wearpretty fast on the road... like all true off road tires do.

Fro two tracks and sand... go with a AT, or one of the major brands MTs. Then just air down to 10 psi at Silverlake and have all the fun you want.

Stock trucks... aired down... are a blast at the dunes. They dont require much for tires.

they actually dont if you take care of them, a buddy of mine had a 35 claw and they lasted prob atleast 20000 miles if not more. he took them off when gas got high but there was still tread left

My point is... if he could get 20,000 miles out of a set of Claws (which I dont consider good)... then he could get 45,000+ out of a MT or AT tire.

oh i completely agree he could get alot out of an AT but if he wants something aggresive i think 25 or 30000 would be good, for that kind of tire atleast

Gotta have some good power to make scoops work well in the sand. (not saying you do or dont... just making a statement)

Yah i know, looking at getting the 1350 plus or the 1650 's... Not worried about power, should have enough. I can turn my 38.5 boggers from a stop on dry ashfault, so I should be able to keep 32" paddles spinning in 2wd.
