mud+starter=bad

Those "Tilton" racing style high performance starters have only the drive gear exposed, not sure how waterproof they are,but at least the "nose" isnt wide open like a stock GM starter--they might be worth the money,I've seen them for about 150 bucks--and they can be rotated to miss headers and other obstructions, not to mention more cranking power than stock. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Usually, freshly rebuilt starters have no mud in them.

Lifetime warranty make the mud someone else's problem /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

try a gear reduction starter.
they seem to work no matter what you thow at them.

so it sounds like there is no way to keep mud out, just prevent, correct? so ill put a dust shield on the trans and throw a starter in my tool box just incase /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

that was some DEEP STICKY mud, seen a chevy with about 12" lift and 44" boggers (BLOWN BBC ) stuck up to the body line.

seriously tho, i'd get one of those cheap rebuilt ones from someplace like Kragen, and get the lifetime warranty. then just bring a good spare and whenever the kragen one goes out just take it in for a new one. i wouldnt get a nice mini starter or anything. even it it does seal it better, if it ever breaks down your out a couple hunderd bones.
