Muddysub's Toyota crawler.

It has been very hot out lately. Do you have a swamp cooler in your garage? I have a 5000 CFM swamp cooler in my shop that is kicking ass right now. It allows me to keep working on my trucks even when it is 117 degrees out. Between your Sub and your Toy you sure do get a lot of wrenching done.

I have zero cooling in my garage. We're having a tuffshed installed in a couple weeks which will open up a bunch of space in the garage. Enough for me to get a roll around swamp cooler.

LC Engineering makes some awesome stuff but I just paid $8.50 to ship a fuel pump block off plate across town because it showed up in a 12x12x4 box. Throw the ****ing thing in a padded envelope!

The engine is pretty much ready to drop in. I just need to get a few bolts, most of the hardware on this truck looks like it was built with vise-grips. I'll get it dropped in this weekend and hopefully get the propane system installed. I've got 4 days and a lot of shit to do.

Done yet?

Not yet but things went pretty well today. That was the easiest engine install I've ever done. One hand on the cherry picker, one hand on the power steering pump and it fell right into place. Zero fight from the input shaft & clutch. Had to run across town this afternoon so I only got a few hours out there. I got the header on and went to get the starter installed and found that one of the starter studs is stripped. I should have caught that before I dropped the engine in. Now it's gonna be hard to extract.

Those engines are about the easiest thing to swap thankfully. Only took me about half an hour to get the 22re off the stand and bolted into my '81.

Well, we're getting closer... Today I got the intake manifold, starter, air compressor, throttle cables and a few other odds & ends installed. It's the little things that take forever, running out of hardware or needing a specific size hose or grommet. I'll probably make three runs to O'Reilly or Napa tomorrow. Most of the old fuel system is gone. I'll pull the fuel tank and install the propane system tomorrow. It cranks over, if I got the distributor installed right all I need is fuel and she's alive.

did the kit come with a bracket for the Model E or do you have to make one?

Didn't get as far as I wanted today but I did make some progress. Losing parts and tools and making parts store runs ate up a ton of time today.

I built a mounting plate for the propane regulator, ran all the plumbing for it, wired up the solenoid and relocated a few things. The new fan I got was wrong, the fan shroud was also wrong, so the radiator isn't in yet. I need to have some new power steering hoses made so I pulled the high pressure line off the steering box, with a grinder and a 1/2" ratchet... The gear box has been hit with something right by the port where the line threads in and it oblonged the hole. I'm gonna see if I can find a tap and fix it or I'll have to buy a new gearbox. Tomorrow I'll try to get the fuel tank out and handle some of that stuff. I've been informed that I can't spend all day in the garage tomorrow.

Does anyone know what this thread pitch these fittings are? They're 5/8" OD.

Toyota/metric? Last time I had to deal with that kind of shit I went to lowes and started matching up fittings till I found what it was. But if its metric?

Well, motivation is low today. I made a trip to O'Reilly for some random small shit, got some plumbing finished up and removed the OEM fuel tank. I like that Toyota put drain plugs in these fuel tanks, so rather than having to wrestle a 40 pound tank down off the truck I drained everything off into two Jerry cans and dropped the tank by hand. I need to relocate the battery before I can mount the propane tanks. While I'm at it I think I'll just buy an Optima for this thing rather than try to find a battery box to fit the generic Walmart battery that's in it. I'm having a hard time finding the correct engine fan for this thing and I want a new fan before I put the radiator in. I'm tempted to just buy a flex fan for it, I prefer clutch fans but a flex fan is considerably more cost-effective. Flex fans are most effective at low RPM and this thing hardly ever revs over 3000 so I don't think it would be a bad idea. Of course a skinny 16" electric fan would be nice too.

I dunno. I'm going to jump in the pool. Happy 4th of July everyone!
