Muddysub's Toyota crawler.

Yeah but it's enough Toyota to be legal
Exactly. In NV it’s smog exempt so the dmv will never see it. If I wear goggles, I don’t need a windshield and it’ll still have turn signals and stuff.

The thought has crossed my mind, I could cut the tubework off of the truck and I’ve got a good start to a tube chassis here... hehe

Looking good Scott. Does this mean your not going to Hump‘n Bump?

I’ll be there, our shop is a sponsor. Next week I’m bringing the Toyota to work so I can rework the steering, front suspension and front axle. I’m just about done welding on it. Just a few things left on the chassis then I’ll start fitting the body panels and weld all those tabs on. Not sure if I’ll have panels done for HnB but I’ll be there.

The other day I got the propane mounts and air tank mounts done, flared the rear brake line to shorten it up some and capped one of the tubes at the back of the chassis. (The other cap is back ordered.)

Shit it’s been a while since I updated this.

The yota pretty much lives at the shop where I work now. Ive gotten a lot done, it’s taken a lot longer than planned but that’s how it goes. I added some zero rates up front to push the axle forward 1.5” and help clear the firewall. I still had to push the firewall back a couple inches. I moved the steering box forward a lot, stretched the steering shaft and front driveline and added a bunch of ARP hardware to the front axle along with a set of trunion bearing eliminators. Rock lights are rewired, most of the body panels are mounted, most of the cage is painted, fire extinguisher and hi-lift are mounted, sliders are cut and capped, exhaust is back together, park brake is deleted, storage area behind the seats is welded up and a few other things.
I need to seal a couple leaky beads, wire and plumb my air compressor, add some dome lights and get it out for a shakedown before KOH.

The pre-KOH shakedown never happened but the truck kicked ass at hammers anyway. I twisted up my front driveline 500’ into the first trail I ran out there. I swapped my friend’s square tube spare and wheeled the rest of the week without issue, aside from the rear locker making some noise. I have a spool on the shelf, I’ll probably swap that into it.

I have aluminum at home to build side panels then eventually I’ll get the tailgate and roof done.

I killed my rear spartan locker at KOH. I though I could get one more run out of it and it came apart on the first obstacle. So after that run I pulled the rear diff and threw a spool in it, then I found two bad u joints on my drivelines. I had my front re-tubed by a driveline shop and had a new end welded onto my rear shaft to keep from killing u joints. While it was apart I made door panels. Got that all back together and took it back out for some redemption. Climbed some stuff that it’s never done before and climbed everything else easier than ever. The steering column is coming apart, that’s kind of annoying but it’s still driveable. Anyway, that’s where the yota is at, I’ll be wheeling again this weekend. I wish I could upload videos...

Well, the little rock tractor is gone. I sold it over the weekend. I have to admit I got a little sentimental over that one. That truck made me a better driver, a better fabricator and I made some great friends because of it. But I got my asking price for it and it’s gonna pay for some big ticket items for the buggy.

On to the next.

I seen your post on FB about watching it leave with the new owner, I was looking at it going “I know that truck from somewhere”.
