I have black widow 250 venoms mufflers and while nice and rowdy and I wish I went with something a bit more mellow. Still burly but a bit quieter. I just had no idea what “sound” I was after and now I do.

Any recommendations for new mufflers?
I have Hedman headers no X pipe just straight twin exhaust that dumbs just before the rear axles. Pretty sure it’s 2.5 inch pipe or 2

Something a bit rowdy but not as throaty and loud.
I don’t necessarily dislike what I have but for early AM start-ups it just makes me self conscience about the volume.

Mine is pretty similar to this from Roberts Custom.

that truck sounds like a 3” system with a built engine. I’m a big fan of magnaflow and use them on all my trucks but it may not be rowdy enough for you.

Did something similar to this a few months ago. Went from dual 2.5" Flowmaster 40 series mufflers to a single 3" Flowmaster 50 series. Made a huge difference in sound, much tamer, but still "aggressive" compared to most factory style mufflers.
I think the best way to shop for sound is to actually hear it in person. Internet video/audio is super dependant on the device being used, the distance to the source, the ambient environment, etc... Nothing substitutes for your own ears in person. I used online videos to give me an idea of what I wanted, and then verified it with a friend's truck.

Running the Thrush Welded. Same flow master sounds, half the price. Been on the truck for about 15 years, so the quality is there

It is.... mine is similar but nearly as lopey

My truck while driving is smooth not really loud. It’s the idle and while nice at the stop light, for early AM (as in 4am) start ups it’s a bit loud. Maybe I’m paranoid and nobody will really care or hear it....

I’m not in a huge rush as I can’t weld and don’t really have the funds to swap what I have out right now.

But shopping online for a “sound” is extremely difficult. Especially with the amount of variables in a given vehicle, the location among many other factors.

I just bought a pair of fake magnaflows that are identical to the magnaflows as far as I can tell. Made by Jones Exhaust, $90 for a pair of 2.5”.

going from 2.5” to 3” sounds a lot different with the same muffler design. The amount of tubing after the muffler also makes a big difference.

Sure.... I tried to find something similar sound wise. It is difficult to do though.

Here is my truck. My account is private but I’ll open it up so you can hear it. I like the sound just wish it were a bit quieter... Hahahahah

Another vote for Magnaflow. All my life I've had loud exhaust but at this point I wanted something a little more mellow so I run a single 3" Magnaflow. Nice sound without making my head tired after driving it.

Could you guys link exactly what you’re running? When I type in Thrush or Magnaflow... It puts me back to the start trying guess which one..
Thanks.

This is what I have.

Thrush welded. 5 years, no issues. Going right back on with the 8.1. Love the sound. You know they are under the truck when you get after it, but mellow at cruise speed.

One thing though. Put tailpipes on those mufflers whatever you choose. I've heard so many folks gripe about the sound when they are dumping under the truck right off the mufflers. Tailpipes help quiet loud mufflers. Plus you don't have the sound pointing right at the ground to be bounced right back up again.

You might be surprised how adding pipes might tone it down.

I think the magnflow 11256 2.5 is a high contender for replacing what I have. I’ll keep browsing the Thrush and see what happens down the road.

Here is what’s going on after the muffler

Yep. It’ll quiet down a bunch just getting it out from under
