I got a unique opportunity handed to me yesterday. An old friend has a '69 C20. 292 4spd. engine ate a bolt somehow. So he calls me up and gives me right of first refusal. but he's passing it on to me for free.


check the photos out and tell me how rough it looks compared to whats around. I know it could be a really nice truck. ....but .

Ya know, it does look kinda rough, but I've seen worse...much worse. Like I always say, never look a gift horse in the mouth.
One bit of advice though. If you do decide to go for it...then really go for it! Don't just get it and let it sit around for years just to turn around and sell it to someone else. If you get it, jump right on it and start fixing it up. Keep your enthusiasm for the project. If it's not really what you are looking for (not 4x4, not short bed, etc.) then I'd pass on it because then you won't have the passion for the project.
Then again, you could always part it out and get some cash for some other project you really want to do.

BTW my wife is from Alberta. From Raymond, just south of Lethbridge.

How are you at rust repair? That has rust in some pretty hard to fix areas. What would you do with this truck?

That windshield drip rail will be a bear to repair. Doors are a bit difficult to do rust repairs on. If it were me, I know I'd be passing on that truck - you'd be money ahead to find one in better shape even if you've got to put down a grand on it. That truck is going to be quite a project and you have to wonder how much rust is hiding given how much is visible.

Thanks guys, pretty rough is sort of what I was thinking. its Not really something I want to get into, it was just offered up to me out of the blue . Although I've got a 12v cummins out of a '94 dodge with a 2wd nv4500 on the floor of my garage that I really don't have a home for yet
I don't want to put a bunch or work into a rust bucket.

I'd pass on it - 3/4 ton 2wd long boxes are the least desirable of the 67-72 trucks -

I guess I'm in the minority...I'd take it in a heartbeat. 3/4 ton 2wd longboxes are my personal favorite and my '68 is in twice as bad of shape as that and I'm driving it out on the town tonight!

To each his own though, if you don't have the time, space, and desire for it, then it's probably not a good fit for you.

That is a really good piece of advice. I don't know how many vehicles I have bought, worked on, then decided they were not quite what I wanted.
