My 5.3 swap

Well apparently all the wires you need to run for like 4Lo signal MIL trans power switch etc... Are all in the c100 connector. I'll post pics later but it's pretty easy setup like that

Well here ya go, first start up. Took the belt off until I replace my power steering pump but everything worked out.

These are stock 5.3 truck manifold just for temporary until I order my real exhaust.

I'm so torn between swapping in a 5.3 of my own or just going with another TBI 350 for ease and a quick swap. I know the benefits of the 5.3 but if I need the truck quick, there's nothing like pulling the old TBI 350 on Friday and having a replacement TBI 350 in Sunday afternoon.

I just like simple and I'm not sure which is simpler...:dunno:

Well personally I'd just wait to swap a 5.3 in it. I love tbi 350. Good reliable engines but the new style engines just put the tbi's to shame on power and fuel economy.

Even if you put a tbi back in I strongly recommend buying a 5.3 4L60e combo and get it all planned out and swap it in a long weekend.

Mine would've went so much faster if I had somewhere to work lol I mean if you look in my pics the plywood under my truck has holes in it where the engine hoist pushed thru it into the mud.

Well I'm picking up some 04 gto manifolds because I can't seem to find any trailblazer SS manifolds anywhere. Plus the gto manifolds are a pretty good deal. Only 50 bucks.

After I get my exhaust done it'll be driveable

If you plan out everything in advance, and buy everything conceivable in advance, and do crazy research, you can have the swap complete starting Friday afternoon, and finish the following Sunday. That's assuming your getting rid of your old wiring at the same time. If you wanted to, you could just tie your old wiring up out of the way and work on it as you have time. In that case, you could easily do the swap over a 3 day weekend.

Yea I mean that's the best way to go about it. Plan plan plan. Honestly it's a pretty easy swap. Even if you make the factory wiring work for the LS all you need is your crank signal wire and ignition. Well a fuel pump wire too if your not already running a tbi engine.

I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a engine upgrade. It's hard to beat the power reliability and price.

I like the manifolds, but when my wife walked past the computer and saw the pic of them on, what I assume is your dining room table, my wife shot me a look and warned me that if I ever decided to follow your lead, I would be sleeping with the fishes. :haha:

Jeez, girls are no fun sometimes....:haha:

Haha yea well I'm single and never use the dining room table for anything soi figure it works good for showing off parts and mock up on smaller things lol also a prime wiring location if you have a bunch of soldering to do.

Oh when I was single, I would use my table for the same kind of things. But since I got married, that little band of gold on her finger acts like a thought transference device. I swear it's tapped into my sub-conscience or something. She can take a quick glance at me and shoot me a pre-emptive, "do it and you're dead meat buck-o!" with the same ease as swatting flies. :dunno:

Parts aren't allowed in the house for fear their going to end up on some clean surface messing it up.

Yea I could see that being an issue lol

My old girl use to drag race and work on her own car so whenever I'd bring something in she'd be just as interested as I was in what I was doing. Good Times.

But yea I'd say any other woman would get mad at me in a hurry lol

On a side note, you know you have an awesome girl when you get in a fight about what to do on the weekend. Wheelin or racing lol

Dude. 79 bonanza. Your my hero. Real good work on this project. That was crazy work you did. I would love to see a video on the final product.

When mine found out that I cooked a Honda 250R case in the oven and put the bearings in the freezer right before Christmas one year and ruined the oven because of a strange taste I am not allowed to even have parts near an entrance to the house.

2004 GTO LS1 exhaust manifolds I picked up for 50 bucks on Craigslist. Should fit pretty good.

How did the GTO manifolds work out? I've seen a lot of people needing to notch the frame to fit the truck manifolds and am looking around for other alternatives...

Mine wouldn't clear the factory engine crossmember. You can run stock 5.3L manifolds, it's just a tight squeeze.

I have a ord high clearance crossmember now but I haven't tried them out yet, I'd say they'd fit no problem with that
