My '70 C/10 - The Rat Bastard... [Won't Idle.]

You can use a starter off a 98ish Vortec 454 if you like. Its a gear reduction starter, and is much much lighter and smaller. So headers wont burn it up. And you get that cool sound at startup. But at a high price, lol.

and just a reminder that wrap voids any header warranty should it matter.... it's been said they promote rust.. but that probably wouldn't be much of an issue in your area...

Yea.... No warranty to speak of, and rust ain't exactly predominant here.
But, seriously.... No one wraps their headers? :dunno:

Holy sh*t.... :eek1:

I had no idea what wraps do to headers!
After looking into wraps, it's crazy that anyone would run them.

Ceramic Paint, heat shield, and mini-starter it is... :haha:

with the gear reduction starter, you wont even need a heat shield...

Keep in mind a factory Vortec starter is around 200$, vs 50$ for an older style. I run an older style big starter on my Vortec block with headers and I get years out of them. For me, the water does them in before heat has a chance. If I get my hands on a newer starter best believe I will be running it over the older style. As a bonus, it cranks the motor over easier as well. So it doesnt suck as much juice and drain the battery as fast. And its a a$$ton easier to put on or remove.

trust me, when it comes to laying in bilge water, installing starters in boats, which I probably do 25 to 40 a yr, I'm beyond grateful for the mini's....

I got a smoking deal when I was about 20 at a swap meet, on a Tilton starter for my SB Mopars.. they where pretty much the only company that made em in those days.. no Summit's, GM, etc.. way pricier than anything I could buy new, but it was friggin killer and ran that in a 1/2 dozen cars/trucks...

eh, can't say per se... Powermasters a big name these days too, and supposed to be top-notch, I've eyeballed them... Tilton may still be bada$$, paying attention to detail, with that extra bit of quality, but than again, they may be like many companies go *coughchampioncough*, and living off their name...

they're probably all rebadged mitsubishi's these days anyway... they're one of the major manny's of mini's iirc..

Now you have to make sure that when they're installed, all the bowties point the same way (preferably horizontally, i.e. matching the grille orientation :D )

CDO.
