It's the "assorted crap" that gets you every time. Major things, piece of cake. The little stuff can take days :D

Found out my fan wiring was wrong... Got that all cleared up.

Then, I realized my alternator isn't supposed to be directly charging my battery. :doah:
So, I had to reroute the cables, and put in a Battery Junction.
That was a :mad: moment....
Basically, I set myself back by half-a-day.

I did, however, get a basic timing light that works with the MSD.
So, the motor is getting timed tomoro morning;
And if she dont do anything weird,its onto the brakes and some driving. :D

"Also note that this "main distribution point" system only works properly when the “battery charging wire” connects from the main distribution point to the battery (as seen in the diagrams above). There should never be a wire connected from the alternator directly to the battery. This is because, the voltage regulator can only "sense" and "respond to" one voltage - in this case the voltage at the main distribution point. If we also ran a heavy gauge charging wire from the alternator directly to the battery, we risk dangerously overcharging the battery as the alternator adjusts output to maintain the main distribution point at 14.0 volts. That's why the battery must also take its charge from the main distribution point - so the system is in equilibrium and we don't risk sending 16.0 volts directly to a battery because that's what the alternator is outputting to keep the main distribution point at 14.0 volts."
 
I am kinda clueless into what the bv alt bible is. Also, what does your "main distribution point" look like and what does your battery junction look like?

Took me a minute to get it. He means BillaVista, a guy who's written a number of good articles on Pirate covering a range of topics, from axles like the 14BFF and D60 to recovery, umm ...

I'm not sure I'm 100% onboard with the description given, but that may be because I use the battery + post as my distribution point, so the alternator-to-battery wire is also to the distro point.

Regardless, BV's other stuff has a lot of good research in it so you can read up on things and draw your own conclusions. (Get it, draw your own, you know, like amperage draw... oh I crack myself up...)

Gawdammit, A-Ron..... :haha:

All I know is, I had the K5 wired that way and it ATE batteries.
Same with the F-250.
I think it was because of overcharging.

Gonna run it this way.
Worst case scenario, I have a cleaner look and a battery junction. :dunno: :popcorn:
 
sounds like another issue.. I don't buy it.. I've run vehicles like that for decades with no ill-effects... I also see boats wired that way on occasion...

that sad, the other way works too..
 
I read through all of that and it's not a bad thing to run the charger cable right to the battery if that's where your main power distribution is coming from, just not as efficient. Your voltage sense wire would need to be at the battery post as well.

That's shocking, I thought you had good info. Thanks for shedding light on BV, I knew about the 14bolt bible but wasn't connecting the dots nor did I know about those other write-ups.

Ran the truck till it warmed up.
Checked the timing.
Realized the distributor is a tooth off.
Ill fix that tomoro.
Fixed all the leaks.

QUESTION:

What is the CORRECT way to rid the coolant system of air?
As in, upon initial fill?

*No AC or Heater Core connected... Just the Radiator and Block.

best coolent service tool under 50 bucks in my opinion .

look around can be found a little cheeper at times.

trick is onces all done and ready to remove squeeze the upper hose a bit to force extra coolent out . then hold it and install the plug . let go of the hose and remove funnel and should be no spils as you just created a negative void so no fluid to spill over . then cap it off and drain funnel extra in over flow tank and done .
 
all ive ever done is run it up to temp and pour coolant in while it runs and circulates. eventually it'll be full and then put the cap on. when it stops and cools down it should be good... then I recheck after a few days of driving around
