Okay, cool... I've always done the fill-run-fill method.

I always drill an 1/8" hole or two in the thermostat before I put it in too.

some t-stats come with a bleader hole/floating pin in them just for this trick .

best coolent service tool under 50 bucks in my opinion .
look around can be found a little cheeper at times.
trick is onces all done and ready to remove squeeze the upper hose a bit to force extra coolent out . then hold it and install the plug . let go of the hose and remove funnel and should be no spils as you just created a negative void so no fluid to spill over . then cap it off and drain funnel extra in over flow tank and done .

14 degrees, initial timing.

I think my 396 is around 20 initial. It's well past the pointer.
