Valve cover to Body (2).
Inner fender to Frame.
Frame to Body.
Bed to Frame.

And, one from the Battery to the Core support.

it's not a ground issue.. I just said that...

if you've got weak spark, it's the coil crapping out...

Thanks for responding, guys.

NorCal_Chris came by... We think we solved it.

The "12v Ign hot", that ran the MSD, now the HEI "BAT",
was dropping the power to 10.8v during cranking.

I did not realize this...

Which lead me down the diagnostic path to thinking the coil was bad. (Weak spark)
To state the obvious: 10.8v will run an msd, but NOT an HEI....
*yet another issue they have... I know... Im chucking it into the woods.

So, im gonna use the "10.8v, cranking" wire to trigger a Relay for the Distributor Power.
Its the cleanest way to achieve it, and I already have a spare relay next to my Dist. Block.

Oh, and the motor popped a couple times out of the exhaust, at about 12*advance.
Im gonna re-stab the dizzy tomoro, and put it back to 10* initial.
I bet that mofo starts at 14-16 again.


Nothing like running around in circles, chasing the Gremlins.
At least I know ALL my circuits are good and my truck is overly gounded.

Dumb question, are you using the factory restestior wire for the igntion system? Does the wire going to the distributor have 12 volts when the key is on and the motor cranking over?

Aftermarket harness, no resistor/resistance in the wire.
Just dropping voltage with the starter is all.
No such thing as stupid questions.... Just stupid people, like me.

If it is dropping voltage during cranking, the ignition wire is probably not wired the ignition switch correctly.
If it is wired correctly, you probably have a loose connection somewhere.

If you have it wired correctly and there is no loose connection and it still dropping voltage, you could jump the ignition system during cranking by running a wire from the "I" terminal on the starter solenoid to the ignition circuit. But that hardly should be needed if everything else is right.

Yes.... Thats how I know the circuits are all fine.
I just completely brainfarted on testing that wire during cranking.
It was a dumb sh*t move.

And that wires voltage drop is just like any other vehicle, when cranking.
