My 74 K5 build

FYI, 2"x4"x0.25" wall tube is about 8.81 lbs/ft.

So three 20' sticks would weigh 529 lbs - less than I would have guessed (unless my math is wrong  )

I only bought 2, 20' lengths so if that's correct I used it all but about 5' so it should weigh about 310 lbs or so which sounds about right. In that one pict were you see 3 sticks they are cut to 10' lengths so I could move them.

Some up dated picts tore down the old truck

The new frame welded and squared up ready for the body

Ok this is with the body on after I decided the caster wheels I had were not going to be strong enough and I wanted to see the ride height I was going for so I solid welded the axles to the frame for the time being so it can be moved and such

nice build, the frame looks good. did you build the jackstands your using? also do you have the steering wheel from the blazer and the door panels?

Looks good. But man 1/4" for the frame.Crazy.I used 2x3x1/8" for my '70 Jeepster.Plated the miters and will plate where the motormounts weld to the frame.I also kept the miters to a minimum.Basicly it goes ----\_____/-----.I didn't do all the ups and downs the original had.

Aside from weight I don't see a problem with the frame. All the welds cancel each other out as far as distortion goes, and with full preps each welded joint is stronger than the tube itself. Most tubing is under 50ksi tensile, and the weld filler wire is 70ksi.

i considered doing the same for my K5, but with 2x6x.188" wall. Then I bought a 1 ton CC which has a much beefier frame (although I may still box that anyways.)

Yeah the jack stands are hand crafted but by a coworker he had them from a project his son did so I just barrowed them. Yeah the steering wheel and door pannels are in it or i have them. thanks for the frame compliments so far it's been a fun learning experiance.

I just was guessing what would be a good strong frame when I started this project and I really want to be able to be rough on this thing when it's done so that's why I chose 1/4" a big block and 2.5 ton axles 4 linked up and I hope it will all hold up. Is your jeepster done I'd like to see some picts of it if there on here.

These Picts are the current picts this is a front cab mount they are just tacked for now and I'm gunna gusset and brace them up a little better then arc weld them

This is a cab mount located near the wheel wells they to will get more bracing also

Next I think I going to shoot for puting the motor in, but I'm going home for a few weeks so that will be when I get back.

When I last talked to 74Chevy454, he was trying to get a transfer to another base out of CA. That was in Feb when I bought his old frame.
