My 85 suburban build thread -Update

Dafey cmon man you sure you dont wanna get in on this?

I ALWAYS hated crawling under the dash..now that I have Degenerative spinal cord disease I
have a good excuse to pawn it off on someone else  :rotfl: :haha:

But since you have experience at it , mine needs a little wiring done , when do you think you can come down?

As soon as i can find hired help to push my truck down there :haha:

In all reality when i start to rewire her im going to strip the interior bare including the dash. I also bought a set of buckets out of a 86 burban so those will be going in. I am thinking about herculining the interior since im gonna have to grind my tailgate off. When it rains i usually have a pool in the back of the burban. All i will have to do that i dont want to would be to drop the tank to rewire that part and thats only cause i have some gas still in the tank.

So for the past week or so ive been busy ripping the entire interior out so i can move forward with the painless kit. Ive pretty much stripped all the interior out as well as removing alot of the old wiring harness, i still have some more to remove but im getting closer. I bolted the fuseblock up and have somewhat started to run some of the wires. Upon ripping out the nasty carpet i discovered a hole in the floorboard so after i get that patched up ill finish running wire. Its been my personal experience that its better to weld without wires close by..dont ask how i know that:D. Have some pictures to kinda show what im talking about.

So ive been busy removing my old harness and replacing it with the new one. Ive learned alot and hopefully will learn more about wiring. I started to wire the connectors for everything under the dash and got most of that done but as i was chasing down all the wires for my door i got kinda mad. Seems that painless kits only supply the power for the PW/PL.. So i called there tech support (which isnt bad btw) and he informed me that i would have to extend the power wires to my rear doors as the kit only supplied 2 power wires for the fdrivers/passenger door only. Pretty much got mad and took a day off. Came back today and went out and looked at it and came to the sad conclusion ive lost motivation to work on it. I got alot done, more than expected actually but now im kinda lost and confused at a crossroads as to how i wanna build my baby now. :(

these are the two power wires running to the passenger door, and i might have to extend these too..

I'm probably going to have to re-use the connector from my old harness for the doors. This is the right rear door connector.

Right rear door, thinking about cutting a hole to make a removable panel cause i learned my lesson about trying to stick my hand in that door:shame:

Thanks much ORD, cross member went in perfect with no hassels. Been busy doing other things and i finally got some progress made with the burb. Been trying to collect some parts here and there and finally scored a hydraboost setup for my burb and ive also completed the auto to manuel swap as far as the pedal bracket goes. I still need to get motor mounts, put the motor in and finish the rest of the driveline.

No more big ugly break pedal! Now on to the body work and the re-wiring part.

Finally got around to test fitting the motor with the new X-member and DIY motor mounts, all i have to say is outstanding! Havent been able to do too much between the weather and my dr saying no heavy exercise. The motor fit in fine though im questioning header clearance.

nice work...! i know i would't re-wire my whole truck, but i'd like to someday...

how long do you think it took to swap the 4-speed parts in...? i'm doing that this summer, i hope...

Finding them was the biggest issue, all in all about an hour or so cause i had to scrape the black crap off my M/C bolts where it bolts to the firewall.

hey what did you get you r master cylinder out of? i got one out of a 90's chevy hoping it fits.
